It is Easter this weekend! If you are not following the British tradition and doing DIY, it is a good time to look at what is happening at your local clubs. Many of then are doing something for the holiday. Let us take a look at a couple of examples that are really pushing the boat out.
Liverpool Sun & Air Society (LSAS)
At Liverpool Sun & Air Society we always like to make the most of the bank holiday weekends. Easter is a big one with two extra days to spend at the club, it’s also the first one of the season and (hopefully) the start of Spring.
Most of our events involve food, Good Friday has to be Hot Cross Buns. Easter Saturday sees us enjoying a traditional roast and then celebratory Waffles on Sunday.
Some of the members will be attending church together for the Easter Sunday service. A fun weekend for all whilst not forgetting the reason for the celebrations.
All events at LSAS are open to everyone, members and visitors alike.
Book via our website.

TANDO – Newcastle upon Tyne
TANDO welcomes British Naturism members and other genuine Naturists to join us for our Easter celebrations starting on Good Friday with a disco from 7pm until late. We don’t have a bar, but you are very welcome to bring your own drinks.
Celebrations continue on Easter Sunday at 2pm with an Easter Egg Hunt for all generations.
Visitors are welcome but please contact us in advance on 07970 328144. Normal fees apply, for entry and/or overnight stays, see our website.

Elsewhere
For other options, check out the events calendar, it is a busy weekend!

Sunfolk reopens on April 3rd, just in time for Easter, and as you’ve seen over the last few days, there’s plenty waiting for you from the very start of the season.
Relax in the hot tub while the cool spring air refreshes your face.
Warm up in the sauna overlooking the lawns.
Enjoy a swim in the heated covered pool.
Then settle into the Pavilion with a drink, a snack, and good company.
And if one day isn’t enough, why not stay a little longer?
Our glamping pods offer a warm and comfortable way to enjoy an early-season break, combining the feel of being close to nature with the comfort of proper beds and heating. They’re very popular and availability is limited, so if you’re thinking about it we recommend booking soon.
Spring at Sunfolk has its own special atmosphere – quieter, relaxed, and perfect for unwinding after the winter months.
We can’t wait to welcome you back.
If your spring calendar still has a little breathing space, here’s something wonderfully different for Saturday 25 April…
A murder has been committed - and it’s up to you to crack the case.
The Laser and South East Region (LASER) are hosting a thrilling murder mystery evening at the Mill Arms in Hampshire. Discounted tickets are available for members and include a finger buffet along with the chance to put your detective skills to the test.
We’ll have exclusive use of the function room, complete with its own bar, so we can enjoy the whole evening as nature intended. For those travelling from further afield, six rooms have been reserved exclusively for British Naturism members who would like to stay overnight.
If you’ve never experienced a murder mystery event before, you’re in for a treat. They’re immersive, interactive, and enormous fun; full of twists, secrets, and plenty of surprises.
Will you solve the case?
Will you spot the hidden weapon?
There’s only one way to find out…

The Naked Heart Walks 2026 are now open for booking!
One of British Naturism’s standout successes in recent years has been its partnership with the British Heart Foundation. Together, the partnership has opened the doors to some truly spectacular historic locations across the country, creating unique opportunities to enjoy Naturism while supporting a vital cause.
These walks are charity fundraisers and, while participation doesn’t require it, attendees are encouraged to raise sponsorship for the BHF or make a donation when booking. As clothing-optional events, they’re also a brilliant way to introduce a friend or partner who may be curious about Naturism but not quite ready to fully take part. Many first-time visitors arrive just to see what it is like and end up feeling inspired to join in.
2026 Walk Schedule
• Powderham Castle – Saturday, 16 May, 12:00
• Court Farm – Friday, 22 May, 15:00
• Breamore Estate – Saturday, 6 June, 12:00
• College Lake Nature Reserve – Saturday, 20 June, 17:30
• Himalayan Gardens – Saturday, 27 June, 16:00
• Leonardslee Gardens – Sunday, 28 June, 17:30
• CWM Weeg Gardens – Saturday, 4 July, 14:00
• Himalayan Gardens – Saturday, 8 August, 16:00
• Dorothy Clive Gardens – Wednesday, 12 August, 18:00
• Court Farm – Friday, 11 September, 15:00
With such a varied programme, there’s every reason to take part in one, or several, of these memorable events. It’s a chance to enjoy incredible surroundings, connect with others, and raise funds for life-saving research.

British Naturism: Sunfolk reopens on April 3rd, and yesterday we looked at the hot tub and sauna to show why it’s a great place to visit even before the summer heat arrives.
But they’re not the only highlights, so what else makes Sunfolk such an appealing destination as early as April?
Swimming Pool
If you prefer a little movement as part of your relaxation, the swimming pool is likely to be your favourite spot. The pool is both heated and covered, meaning it’s ready to go from the moment we open, no need to watch the forecast or dodge rain clouds before planning your swim.
The warmth of the water creates a pleasant, misty atmosphere beneath the dome, so you can also sit naked on the poolside and relax without feeling the cold.
The Pavilion
No day out or short break is complete without snacks and the occasional drink. The Pavilion provides both, along with plenty of comfortable indoor seating.
With its glass frontage, the Pavilion quickly warms whenever the sun appears, making it a perfect place to lounge naked on the sofas and soak up the warmth. If the weather takes a turn, the log burner can be lit to make the space cosy very quickly—though it’s rarely needed.
The Bistro area offers hot and cold drinks, a range of snacks, ice cream for warmer days, and pizza when something more substantial is required.
A new option for this year is a drinks pass. Naturists don’t tend to have pockets, so paying for your drinks in advance rather than buying each one separately should make your visit easier and more relaxed.
Glamping Pods
For those looking to stay rather than just visit for the day, there are several options. Camping and motorhome spaces are available, but in spring the weather can sometimes be unpredictable.
Instead, you might prefer one of our glamping pods. These provide proper furniture and bedding, along with heating, so you can be confident of a comfortable stay even during April showers.
Glamping combines the comfort and convenience of a hotel room with the back-to-nature feel of camping. It’s extremely popular and capacity is limited, so if you’re considering this option we recommend booking early.
That rounds out our spring preview of Sunfolk. Basking on the lawns in the height of summer will be wonderful, but from the very start of April the site is already set up for a fantastic visit.
And of course, they’re very different experiences… so why not plan to try both?

Book your visit here!

Even before the summer heat arrives, Sunfolk is a great place to visit, so let’s take a look at what’s on offer for early-season visitors.
The Hot Tub
Hot tubs are actually at their best when the surrounding air is a little cooler. Submerging your body in the hot water while feeling the fresh spring air pinch your face is one of the most invigorating sensations you can experience.
The large-capacity hot tub also makes it a very social space. Many visitors can use it at the same time, chatting and relaxing together rather than queuing for a turn. In fact, the only real problem is that once people get in, they often don’t want to get out and can happily spend hours there in conversation.
Sauna
If the hot tub isn’t intense enough for you, you can step it up with the sauna. Again, the generous capacity means several people can enjoy it together, and the glass frontage overlooking the lawns keeps you connected to the surroundings rather than sitting in the dark.
Outdoor showers are immediately on hand to rinse off, whether you prefer a warm shower to retain the heat or a refreshing cold shock for the traditional sauna experience.
That covers two of the hottest features at Sunfolk, so we’ll pause here for now. Check back tomorrow when we continue exploring the site and look at the facilities that make it ideal for a spring or early summer break.
Sunfolk Pride returns for its fourth year following a sell-out 2025 event that welcomed 100 people across a fantastic weekend of celebration, connection, and fun.
While the event proudly celebrates the LGBTQ+ community, its core message is simple: Naturism respects everybody. Whoever you are, however you identify, you will be warmly welcomed.
Across the weekend, there’ll be something for everyone. Expect a relaxed and inclusive programme featuring yoga, crafts, social chats, sports activities, a silent disco, campfire gatherings, and the ever-popular BBQ. Whether you want to get involved or simply unwind and soak up the atmosphere, you can take the weekend at your own pace.
British Naturism LGBTQ+ Officer Richard Stacey explains:
“This event is important to raise awareness of the issues still faced by people who are part of the LGBTQ+ community. Even in 2026, many still experience prejudice, which can impact mental health and body confidence. Bringing people together to celebrate and raise awareness is vital.”
The event takes place at British Naturism: Sunfolk, near St Albans. Flexible booking options are available, including day visits, camping, and glamping pods—so you can attend in a way that suits you. Simply book via the Sunfolk booking page and select your preferred dates in the booking calendar.
Sunfolk Pride is always popular, so early booking is strongly recommended to avoid disappointment.
This is a weekend where you can truly be yourself—accepted, respected, and celebrated.
If you’d like to get involved in planning or volunteering, or have any questions, contact Richard at lgbtq@bn.org.uk

You can tell your event is going to be a big one when the featured performers are appearing on breakfast television talking about it months in advance…

Paul Chuckle, the much-loved entertainer, will be DJing through the night for us at Nudefest this summer. Yesterday he appeared on flagship breakfast show This Morning, talking about the festival and building anticipation for what will be a brand-new experience for him: DJing for a large naked audience 🎧

Paul isn’t the first act this year to speak publicly about appearing at one of our events; but he is the first to do so on national television. That kind of spotlight shows just how far Naturism has come out of the shadows. It also highlights how the lighter, more unexpected side of our lives can open the door to sharing genuinely powerful, life-enhancing messages.

And Paul is far from the only big-name act lined up for Nudefest this year - something reflected in just how quickly tickets are already selling.

How full-body connection with nature could benefit both mind and body
Spending time in nature is widely known to boost wellbeing, but Naturism may take those benefits even further. By removing the barrier of clothing, the body can fully experience air, sunlight, and the natural environment, deepening relaxation, mindfulness, and overall connection.
Research already links Naturism to improved body image and mental health. But emerging science suggests there may also be physical benefits. Natural sunlight contains near-infrared (NIR) and far-red (FR) wavelengths, largely absent from indoor lighting, which are believed to support cellular energy and mitochondrial function.
Forest environments add another layer. Alongside the calming effects of phytoncides released by trees, woodland settings are rich in far-red light, which can penetrate the skin and underlying tissues. This raises an intriguing possibility: that full-body exposure to natural light may enhance these benefits.
With most people spending the majority of their time indoors, reconnecting with nature, fully and directly, may be more important than ever.
Members can read the full article in our Spring magazine – out now

Tomorrow we celebrate the Spring Equinox, the moment when day and night are roughly equal in length and the natural world begins to tip decisively towards longer, warmer days. It has long been seen as a symbol of renewal, balance and reconnection with nature. For Naturists, that meaning resonates strongly. As the light returns and temperatures begin to rise, it’s a reminder that spending time outdoors, feeling the sun and fresh air directly on the skin, is one of the simplest and most natural pleasures there is. The equinox marks the turning point when many Naturists begin looking forward again to outdoor swims, walks, gardens and beaches — a gentle but unmistakable signal that the Naturist season is on its way. 🌱❤️☀️

Yesterday we previewed the national-level festivals coming up this year, the first of which is NKD in May.

But there are many more opportunities ahead.

British Naturism: Sunfolk reopens on 3rd April, we will have more on that next week.

It is at about this time that the program of local events really starts to kick off. The full calendar can be found here, or you can search for events near you here.

Regular swims continued throughout the winter period, but with spring fully upon us, free hikes are starting to appear, as are outdoor club events. British Naturism is much more than the large-scale gatherings, it is worth checking regularly for local opportunities, because community is at the centre of all we do and these groups are run by the nicest people you will ever meet. ❤️🌿

Forget the rain and winds of Winter and indulge yourself for a couple of hours at a secure, warm, dry indoor venue in the heart of Dorset at The Dorset Museum and Art Gallery in Dorchester, the County Town of Dorset. Immerse yourself in 250 million years of natural history as the exhibits reveal the secrets of geology, landscapes, habitats, and wildlife that surround us every day. Discover the life and works of Dorset’s famous novelist and poet Thomas Hardy and dive into key themes of his personal and professional life.
This is an amazing opportunity to enjoy a private viewing of the museum NAKED. A ticket entitles you to a glass of wine or other beverage on arrival; communal changing facilities; a locker for clothes and other personal possessions and entry to all the galleries. You will also be able to donate your small change, or more, to The British Heart Foundation to help them find new treatments and cures for heart disease, the biggest ‘killer’ in the UK.

Spring is here, so what better time to start looking ahead to the festivals happening this year and deciding which ones you want to be part of!
NKD – 23–27 May, Dorset
The season kicks off with NKD, the festival designed especially for younger Naturists and for those who like the idea of being clothes-free but have never tried anything like this before.
Focusing on an 18–50 age range puts the idea of fitting in and feeling welcome at the heart of this festival. There’s plenty of time to relax, mixed with high-energy activities including paint and water fights, dodgeball, and exclusive NKD use of one of the largest waterparks in the UK on the Sunday evening.
Every night is a party night with a mix of entertainment styles, and this year we’re going even further with live acts that should make 2026 a standout year.

Woodlandia – 5–8 June, Windermere
For those who place nature at the heart of Naturism, Woodlandia is the perfect choice. Based in beautiful, wild surroundings on the banks of Lake Windermere, this is your chance to reconnect with nature.
The weekend has a strong focus on wellness, including yoga and meditation among the wildflowers, along with walking and tarn swimming. It’s an opportunity to turn your back on the commercial world for a few days and simply enjoy being part of the landscape.

Nudefest – 7–12 July, Somerset
Nudefest is our biggest, most ambitious, and longest-running festival. If you’re looking for the classic Naturist festival experience, this is the one.
The venue offers plenty of creature comforts, including electrical hook-ups and a wide range of food vendors for those who prefer a more relaxed style of camping. But where Nudefest truly shines is the entertainment line-up.
This year features Dr and the Medics and Black Lace, meaning our headline acts are genuine household names. There will also be a dedicated comedy night along with fringe comedy events throughout the week. Whether you prefer music and dancing or entertainment that gets you thinking, there’s something for everyone.
Nudefest is booking very fast this year, so if you want to join us, make sure you book soon!

EveryBody – 20–24 August, Dorset
We round out the season with EveryBody. This festival is perfect for those familiar with the wider festival scene, and for the young at heart.
It’s designed for an adult audience, giving everyone the chance to set aside the pressures of everyday life and dive into activities such as combat archery, fitness sessions, art and sculpture workshops, as well as another waterpark experience.
Evenings include comedy, music, and plenty of opportunities to let loose and enjoy the atmosphere.

So… Which Will You Choose?
We’re incredibly excited about the year ahead and hope there’s something here that inspires you.
Because we’d love to see you at one… or some… or maybe even all of them!

Ready to test your swimming skills… or just fancy a fun evening of sport and socialising? 🏊‍♂️

The National Swimming Gala and Festival of Sport is just three weeks away, and it’s one of the most relaxed and welcoming events on the calendar. Don’t worry, this isn’t an elite competition. If you can comfortably swim two 25-metre lengths, you’re ready to take part.

Taking place at Watford Woodside Leisure Centre on Saturday 11 April, the evening includes a mix of friendly sport and social time.

Swimming Gala
• Lane swimming races against the clock
• A range of age categories
• All swimming strokes
• Club relays
Other Sports
• Badminton
• Pickleball
• Squash
• Table tennis

And the best part? Every participant receives a medal. 🥇

The poolside café will be open during the event, and afterwards many people stay on for a relaxed post-event curry.

The festival is open to all British Naturism members and members of affiliated clubs, and groups of friends from clubs are especially welcome.

The event starts at 6pm.

It’s also a fantastic event for first-timers. If you’ve been thinking about trying a Naturist event but were worried about not knowing anyone, the mix of races and sports makes it easy to get involved and meet people straight away. Find out about joining British Naturism here.

Tickets are available now.

We hope to see you there.

Do you have a story to share about naturism? A memorable travel experience? An opinion about the future of the movement? Or perhaps something more creative?
With the Spring edition of BN Magazine reaching members at the end of this month, we’re now opening submissions for the Summer issue, and we’d love to hear from members and the wider naturist community.
BN Magazine is shaped by the voices of our community, and we welcome a wide range of contributions. Whether you’re an experienced writer or submitting something for the first time, if you have something interesting to say about naturism, we want to hear from you.
What we’re looking for
We’re particularly interested in submissions such as:
Editorial and feature articles about naturism, wellbeing, body confidence, or community life
Travel stories from naturist holidays, beaches, clubs or events
Community stories from clubs, swims, groups or local activities
Creative writing and art, including short reflections, personal essays or naturist-inspired pieces
Why contribute?
Writing for BN Magazine is a great way to share your experiences, inspire others and help showcase the diversity of the naturist community. We want to show the full range of the community and personal stories in particular can help newcomers see what naturism is really like and encourage them to take their first steps.

We look forward to reading your stories.

The latest Women in Focus podcast episode features a fascinating conversation between Helen Berriman and Maja Penko, a tour guide from Ljubljana, Slovenia, and former long-serving president of the Slovenian Naturist Federation.
Maja grew up in a naturist family, and in the episode she shares the charming moment she first realised, at around ten years old, that not everyone lived quite so freely. That realisation helped shape a lifelong commitment to body acceptance and naturist advocacy.
During the conversation, Helen and Maja explore what it means to grow up without body shame, the importance of normalising the human body, and some of the challenges women still face today. They also discuss topics such as nipple equality and how attitudes, sometimes even our own, can be the first barriers to feeling comfortable in our bodies.
Maja’s message is refreshingly direct: start by looking in the mirror, accept what you see, and take it from there.
The episode offers thoughtful reflections on confidence, equality and the role naturism can play in helping people develop a healthier relationship with their bodies.
Join the BN Ladies Only Holiday
If the conversation inspires you to connect with other women in the naturist community, there’s also an opportunity coming up this summer. The BN Ladies Only holiday will be heading to the Vritomartis Naturist Resort for a week from 1 June.

The Human First project has passed an important milestone, with more than £3,000 raised through our crowdfunding campaign. This means that the cost of hiring the venue has now been fully covered, ensuring that the project will go ahead!
Human First is a large-scale photographic art project planned for October 2026 in London, created in collaboration with internationally recognised photographer Angelo Musco. The project will bring together 200 volunteer participants to form a single large-scale photographic artwork using the naked human body.
The aim of the project is to highlight a simple but powerful message: before gender, ethnicity, background, or status, we are human first. By removing the visual markers that normally signal identity and hierarchy, the artwork invites viewers to reflect on equality and the dignity shared by all people.
The project is being delivered in partnership with British Naturism and TheNakedTruth, and will take place at The Round Chapel in Hackney, London, a striking historic venue that provides an impressive setting for the photographic work.
Reaching the £3,000 mark means the venue is secured, but further funding is still needed to deliver the project at its full potential. The next priority is raising funds to hire specialist lighting equipment. This will allow greater control over the final visuals, helping to ensure the finished artwork is as visually striking and attention-grabbing as possible. The stronger the final image, the more effectively it can draw public attention and encourage people to reflect on the project’s central message of equality.
Supporters have already played a crucial role in bringing the project this far, and additional contributions will help ensure that Human First achieves the impact it deserves.
Anyone wishing to support the project can do so through the crowdfunding page:

Before gender, ethnicity, status, or labels — we are Human First.
Every year on 8 March, the world marks International Women’s Day – a global celebration of women’s social, cultural, economic, and political achievements, as well as a call to action for greater gender equality. The day has been marked for more than a century, since the first gathering in 1911, and today it continues to inspire communities everywhere to recognise the contributions women make to society. (International Women's Day)
For us in British Naturism, it’s also a moment to pause and reflect on the women who help make our organisation and community thrive.
The Women Who Keep Things Moving
Like many volunteer-led communities, British Naturism runs on dedication. While the public often sees events, campaigns and magazine features, much of the work happens quietly in the background with people like our General Secretary Tracey keeping us all on the straight and narrow!
Across the organisation, women contribute in countless ways, serving on committees, coordinating events, supporting newcomers, managing communications, moderating online spaces, and helping to ensure that naturism remains welcoming, inclusive and safe for everyone.
These contributions are not always visible, but they are essential. Without them, the sense of community that defines naturism simply wouldn’t exist.
Community Builders
One of the most powerful aspects of naturism is its community spirit. Women play a central role in nurturing that spirit.
From organising swims, gatherings and regional events, to supporting first-time visitors who may feel nervous about attending their first naturist activity, women in the community often act as the friendly faces that help people feel at ease.
Their ability to build connections, encourage participation and foster inclusivity helps ensure that naturism is open to people from all walks of life.
Women in Focus
A series led by our Women’s Officer, Helen Berriman, through interviews with naturist women from the UK and around the world, the series shares personal stories about how women discovered naturism, the challenges they’ve faced, and the confidence and wellbeing they’ve gained from living clothes-free. By amplifying these diverse voices, from healthcare professionals and campaigners to long-standing naturists and newcomers, the project celebrates the many different experiences of women in naturism and helps encourage others to explore the lifestyle in a supportive and empowering environment.
Advocates for Inclusivity
International Women’s Day is also about raising awareness of equality and celebrating progress while recognising there is still work to do.
Within naturism, women have long been advocates for creating spaces where everyone feels respected and valued. Many help shape conversations around body confidence, diversity and representation — topics that are central to the ethos of naturism itself. Their perspectives help guide the organisation toward a more balanced and welcoming future.
A Community Effort
One of the key ideas behind International Women’s Day is that progress happens through collective effort. As feminist activist Gloria Steinem once said, the struggle for equality belongs to “the collective efforts of all who care about human rights.” (International Women's Day)
That sentiment resonates strongly within naturism. British Naturism is not built by one person or one group – it is built by a community, working together. And all women are an integral part of that story.
This International Women’s Day, we want to say thank you to the women who support, lead, organise, encourage and inspire within British Naturism.
Whether you’re coordinating an event, welcoming a newcomer, volunteering at a festival, or simply helping create a friendly and respectful atmosphere, your contribution matters.
Naturism is about authenticity, confidence and acceptance. Thanks to the women in our community, those values continue to flourish.
Happy International Women’s Day.

Saving Money on Everyday Purchases
The easiest and most powerful benefit comes through WOWPoints.

Here’s how it works:
Through Perks at Work, you purchase retailer gift cards.  For every £1 you spend, you earn 1 WOWPoint, and each WOWPoint is worth 1p.  That’s an immediate 1% cashback.

But it gets better.  Most retailers don’t offer just 1x WOWPoints.  Many offer 2x, 4x — sometimes even 6x.  That means you could effectively be getting up to 6% cashback.
And we’re not talking about obscure products you’ll never buy.  We’re talking about your weekly supermarket shop at:
Tesco
Sainsbury's
Asda
Marks & Spencer (if you’re posh)
I’ve been trialling this while we set everything up, and I have already saved more than my annual membership fee through supermarket WOWPoints alone.
Gift cards can be digital (perfect for paying on your phone) or physical if you prefer.  Download the app, log in, and your purchased cards appear instantly in your wallet.  You earn WOWPoints when you buy the card, then use those points toward your next purchase.
It’s simple.  It’s practical.  And it works.
Something Special
Beyond WOWPoints, Perks at Work offers direct discounts across categories including:
Groceries
Meal prep services
Appliances
Electronics
Travel
Much more
These offers change regularly and can be significantly larger than WOWPoint savings.  If you’re planning a bigger purchase, it is absolutely worth checking the platform first, you might access employee pricing or special private deals.
Enjoying Yourself
The savings don’t stop at shopping.
You can:
Get discounted coffee shop gift cards
Save on cinema tickets
Cut the cost of hotel stays — potentially by hundreds of pounds
Access discounted flights, such as through Expedia
With bigger purchases, even small percentage discounts add up quickly, and some of these aren’t small at all.
“But I Want to Do Stuff, Not Buy Stuff!”
Remarkably, Perks at Work is more than a discount portal.
The Community Online Academy offers free online classes; live and on demand.  Whether you fancy doing yoga or Pilates, or learning Spanish or even accountancy, there’s a huge range available.
They’re mainstream rather than Naturist, but they open up a world of opportunities for members at no additional cost.
How It Works
There is one crucial requirement if you want to take advantage of all this:
You need to be a member of British Naturism.

Each member has a unique 20-digit Perks at Work Identity Number.  If you are already a member, you’ll find it on the Perks at Work tab of your membership profile once you are logged in.  Use that number to create your Perks at Work account, and the system will recognise your eligibility.

Full step-by-step instructions are available on the British Naturism members' forum here.
Why This Matters
This benefit fundamentally changes the value equation of membership.
It is not only possible, but very likely your savings will exceed your membership fee.  In other words, it has just become cheaper to be a member than not.
So if you were previously a member, rejoin to gain the benefits. If you have never been a member, this is a great chance to join and be part of the Naturist community while saving a bit of money along the way. And don’t forget to tell your friends because we want every Naturist to feel the benefit.
So get online, create your Perks at Work account, and start saving today.
It has been a remarkable week at the Caravan, Camping and Motorhome Show at the NEC. We’ve been coming here for several years, but this year felt different…
As always, we spoke to thousands of visitors. As always, it was a joy to speak to many of our members outside our native habitat. And as always, many who stopped had no prior connection with Naturism at all, just curiosity and a willingness to talk.
But this year can be summed up in two words: Depth and Desperation.
There is a sense that the world is shifting. Uncertainty hangs in the air. Tempers feel shorter. Tolerance feels thinner. Naturists, like many others, are feeling the effect. It has created a quiet urgency in each of us to understand where we stand and how we protect the values that matter most.
That urgency showed up in our conversations.
We spoke to people whose self-esteem was shattered. People who would never consider Naturism because they were “too ugly.” People who knew only that they were discontent with their lives. Conversations started slowly: first admitting unhappiness in their bodies, next recognising some of the reasons, then wondering how those feelings might be addressed, before starting to accept that they might be more capable and more valuable than they had allowed themselves to believe.
These weren’t the quick pleasantries of previous years; this was the careful unpacking of a person’s psyche. In one case, a conversation lasted three quarters of an hour as someone explored their beliefs about themselves and their place in the world. And something unexpected happened: others gathered. What began as one-to-one discussions became almost communal reflections. People weren’t listening out of idle curiosity, they were hearing their own fears voiced by someone brave enough to articulate them.
Again and again, individuals who walked past convinced they would “never do something like that” left with literature and a wish to explore further.
Through the week, one underlying theme became clearer. We are beginning to recognise that the world may not be as tolerant or as fair as we once persuaded ourselves it was. Antagonism has become more visible. Discrimination feels less hidden. The exploitation of vulnerable people is harder to ignore. The differing lived experiences of men and women are being more obvious.
These are large societal challenges. Why should Naturism have anything to say about them?
Because when we remove the layers, quite literally, something shifts. Social status markers are removed. Objectification decreases. Those who need support receive it, rather than being treated as lesser beings. Discrimination does not disappear entirely, but it is markedly reduced. Neurodiversity has been a common topic. Many with autism or ADHD feel at home in Naturist spaces because acceptance is higher.
If we are to preserve our shared humanity, then we cannot ignore these broader questions. We must challenge discrimination constructively, seeking solutions rather than creating new divides.
Another noticeable change this year was age.
The show is family-friendly and kids are drawn to our colour and enthusiasm. It also helps that we have sweets. That hasn’t changed and we have had a lot of great exchanges with parents. But there was something different among the young teenagers. It felt as though many have sensed, perhaps subconsciously, that the world will not automatically protect them. They have picked up literature and used it to draw their parents into conversations – parents who themselves were embarrassed and wanted to walk on by.
Bob Dylan told us that “The Times They Are A-Changin'.” It seems that they are a-changin’ fast and it is those who will live in this new world that are reacting first.
So what did we achieve this week at the NEC?
Did we promote Naturism? Yes.
But perhaps we did something more significant.
We became a foundation where deeper anxieties could be voiced and examined. A reminder that acceptance is possible. A demonstration that equality can be lived, not just debated.
This does not feel like a moment for retreating inward and just protecting our own interests. The values at the heart of Naturism; equality, acceptance, authenticity, respect, are not just characteristics of our community. They are needed.
Perhaps the time has come not just to practise them quietly, but to stand for them confidently.

We’ve received an exciting request from Ian Munt, BN Sports Officer, who is currently seeking an umpire for an exciting upcoming international pétanque event.
The International Pétanque Competition will take place at the Naturist Foundation in Kent from 3rd to 5th July.
This promises to be a fantastic weekend of competitive pétanque, welcoming players from across the international naturist community. It’s always a friendly yet competitive atmosphere, and the event plays an important role in the wider pétanque calendar.
👀 We’re Looking for an Umpire
Ian is currently struggling to secure an umpire for the weekend and is reaching out to the wider pétanque community for support.
If you are:
An experienced club player
Knowledgeable about competition rules
Confident in managing matches and resolving disputes
Interested in supporting an international event
…this could be a great opportunity to get involved.
💚 What’s Offered
To ensure there are no out-of-pocket costs, the organiser will cover:
Camping for the weekend
Food throughout the event
This makes it a fantastic opportunity to support the sport while enjoying a fully hosted weekend in Kent.
🙏 Can You Help?
If you’ve umpired before — or feel ready to step into the role — your support would be hugely appreciated. Events like this rely on volunteers and experienced players stepping forward to keep competitions running smoothly.
If you’re interested or would like more details, please get in touch and we’ll connect you directly with Ian.
Let’s help ensure this international competition runs smoothly and successfully!
