Thousands of people have discovered the simplest solution of all: go without the swimming costume in the first place. If this is something you’ve ever wondered about, there are two fa

A groundbreaking international study has shed new light on how time spent in nature transforms the way we feel about our bodies. The Body Image in Nature Survey (BINS) brought together 253 psychologists from 58 countries and surveyed more than 50,000 participants worldwide. Research on this scale is virtually unprecedented, and its conclusions are striking: contact with nature improves body image across age groups, genders and cultures. While it has long been accepted that nature supports mental

We have exciting, breaking news: British Naturism have been confirmed as a participant in the Pride Parade in Brighton 2026. British Naturism shares a strong sense of common cause with many organisations and commun ities, and none more so than the LGBTQ+ community. Both are made up of individuals passionate about their way of life and determined to find acceptance in wider society. Both have faced prejudice and setbacks along the way. It is often said that the challenges facing Naturists today e

In recent weeks, media headlines have focused on “Turn a Blind Eye”, an adult-only campsite near Whatlington in East Sussex. The site describes itself using the word “naturist”, yet the activities promoted there are markedly different from the philosophy upheld by British Naturism and by Naturist federations around the world. The coverage has prompted an important and timely question: what is Naturism, really? British Naturism adopts the internationally recognised definition: “Naturism is a way

This Saturday marks World Naked Gardening Day, a global celebration that invites people everywhere to shed their layers and step outside. The simple but powerful idea behind the day is to encourage body acceptance while deepening our connection with the natural world by gardening without clothes. Those values are already at the heart of everyday life for most Naturists. Respect for the human body and harmony with nature are our central principles, so it’s no surprise that the event is widely emb

A thought-provoking new documentary “Naturism – On the Way Out?” is now live on the European culture channel ARTE.tv. The title is deliberately provocative, but it raises vital questions about how Naturism can remain relevant in the modern world – and how it can truly connect with younger generations. Over the summer, we worked with the German production company behind the film to explore these issues. Director and filmmaker, Mariietta Schultz, first collaborated with Jeannette Langner, chair o

Celebrating its 10th year in 2025, the Great British Skinny Dip (GBSD) is proving that swimming without a costume isn’t just for Naturists - with new venues hosting events and attracting newcomers to this healthy and exhilarating way of taking a dip - and raising funds for the British Heart Foundation. Over the last six months, changes in how Meta, the operators of Facebook, Instagram, and other major social media platforms, handle images of the human body have had alarming negative impacts on some of the most vulnerable minorities in society. 34 National Naturist federations, under the leadership of the International Naturist Federation, have come together to challenge Meta's leadership on this issue through an Open Letter that can be downloaded below. While Meta has long declined to fea

Over recent months, social media platforms have dramatically shifted their stance on the portrayal and discussion of the human body. Depictions of bodies in even the healthiest and most natural contexts are being removed. By doing so, these platforms - arguably the most powerful influencers of our time - send a harmful and clear message: that our bodies are unacceptable and something to be ashamed of. The damage caused by this message cannot be overstated. In a society already grappling w

A striking new study by Professor Keon West reveals that, starting from an early age, spending time naked has positive effects on our mental health that stay with us throughout our lives. The British Naturism poll conducted by Ipsos in 2022 showed that nudity among adults is both popular and widely accepted.
