Yorkshire’s Ashdene Naturist Club has reached its’ 40th anniversary this year, and the recent Bank Holiday weekend was a perfect opportunity to celebrate the milestone. It was a memorable and uplifting occasion, bringing together more than half the members to celebrate four decades of care, connection, and shared experiences.
The 3-day event was organised by a team of very hard-working members and opened with a warm welcome that set a reflective and celebratory tone, recognising the journey Ashdene has taken since its founding and the many people who have contributed to its success over the years.
We were blessed with the best weather we could have only wished for – wall-to-wall sunshine meaning that bands could move outside, the roof came off the pool, and the sun-bathing lawn was well-occupied!
A key highlight of the weekend was the sense of community that permeated every activity. A varied programme ensured there was something for everyone and created an upbeat atmosphere from the beginning.
There was live indoor and outdoor music from visiting bands that encouraged dancing and singalongs and to a very lively ceilidh, a huge BBQ, a talent competition, a karaoke, a (not-so) silent disco, raffles, bingo, a fish & chip evening provided by a visiting catering van, and a photoshoot on the lawn which gave us the opportunity to capture some very memorable aerial photographs.
One of the most meaningful elements of the celebration was the display of photographs, memorabilia, and historical materials documenting Ashdene’s evolution over the past 40 years. These exhibits offered a touching glimpse into the past, prompting stories and conversations among everyone. Many members took the opportunity to reflect on their own connections to Ashdene, sharing memories that highlighted the deep sense of belonging associated with the community.
The relaxed and welcoming atmosphere allowed members of all ages to feel included and enjoy the celebrations together.
A particularly special aspect of the anniversary was the recognition of six individuals who have made a lasting impact on Ashdene. These six were individually recognised for their 40 years of continuous dedication and commitment. Their contributions were celebrated not only as part of Ashdene’s history but as a foundation for its continued success.
Alongside the celebrations, there were moments of reflection that honoured those who have been part of Ashdene’s journey but are no longer present. These quieter moments added depth and meaning to the weekend, reminding everyone of the lasting influence Ashdene has had on so many lives.
Overall, Ashdene’s 40th Anniversary weekend was both a celebration of the past and a very hopeful look toward the future. It reinforced Ashdene’s values of care, respect, and community while highlighting its ongoing commitment to providing a supportive and enriching environment.
The event left members with a renewed sense of pride and optimism, ensuring that Ashdene’s legacy will continue to grow in the years ahead.
