British Naturism has a fantastic job opportunity available - we are looking for a Customer Service Assistant to join our friendly, welcoming team. We care about our members and those wishing to find out more about Naturism, so it is essential that we provide excellent customer service. 
The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic, customer focused and a good communicator, plus a professional and confident manner is essential. This is a paid, part-time 12 month fixed-term contract with the opportunity for renewal.
 
Location: Working remotely
Hours: 15 hours per week
 
If you have good communication and IT skills, have an interest in Naturism and enjoy working as part of a team, then this job could be for you.

Announcing a new BN Members' Group Holiday!

We're delighted to announce a new group holiday to Magnolias Natura on the beautiful, sun-drenched island of Gran Canaria. It will be the third time we've hosted a holiday recently, a successful trip last spring led to a sold-out repeat in a few weeks time and booking is now open for this one, later this year.
This group holiday is exclusively for British Naturism members. Group activities and gatherings will be arranged by hosts who will also be BN members.
The holiday runs for 7 nights from 31 August - 7 September 2024, and, subject to availability, guests can book additional nights
Please note that guests will arrange their own travel and other aspects of their trip.

The National Trust and British Naturism – Working Together to Support Everybody

The National Trust and British Naturism – Working Together to Support Everybody

The National Trust are stewards for over 500 historic houses and gardens, 250,000 hectares of land and 780 miles of coastline, making them arguably the largest leisure influencer in the UK.  British Naturism has a productive history of cooperation with National Trust locations such as Studland beach or Scotney Castle in Kent.

The National Trust are committed to providing equal access and enjoyment to everyone, and attempt to support all groups equally.  While the Trust is overseen by a central committee, each of the locations act independently in many respects, and recent discussions with the Trust have resulted in the creation of a guidance note to explain Naturism to the managers of individual locations.  The guidance note provides managers with the information they need to support a Naturist event at their venue and key aspects will also be woven into their internal guidance.  Crucially, these notes have arisen from collaborative conversations so don’t attempt to set one group as more important than others, and instead create a framework where all visitors have equal status.

We are collectively optimistic that these new steps will strengthen the relationship between British Naturism and the National Trust, make it easier for Naturist visits to be arranged and bring new members to the National Trust.  An outcome that benefits everybody.

We have a big year of Naturist sport ahead of us with swimming, petanque, volleyball, squash and golf all on the schedule.  Perhaps even more exciting are the series of sports taster days at clubs around the country so there are opportunities to sample an activity you hadn’t even considered without having to travel the length of the country.  Travel isn’t necessarily a bad thing if the destination is suitably appealing and that is where the program really comes into its own with a series of sporting events around Europe so you can combine your exercise with a holiday abroad.

A comment that is often made is that with so much going on, it can be easy to miss activities that you would otherwise love to go to.  To solve this problem we have created the new Sports Events Listing Board, now available to members (log in required)

Members often tell us that the main reason they join is to find opportunities and be part of a vibrant community, so the Sports Events Listing Board is just one more reason to join BN today!

Supporting Gender Equality through TheNakedTruth and Women in Focus

Sharing the joy, freedom, and confidence that Naturism brings is British Naturism’s primary objective.  Today we celebrate International Women’s Day by looking at work that has been done to support women in particular.
Since the beginning of the year, we have been running two outreach campaigns, TheNakedTruth video soundbite campaign and the Women in Focus podcasts.  Both campaigns are of interest to all people and match very closely the International Women’s Day 2024 theme of “Inspire Inclusion”.
 
TheNakedTruth
TheNakedTruth is a social media campaign that uses 20-40 second video soundbites to answer frequently asked questions and share people’s stories of how Naturism has helped them.  The ages of people watching the videos are spread evenly across adult life and there are equal numbers of male and female viewers overall.  However, when looking at engagement below the age of 44 we see that 68% of viewers are women.  This fits with what we know about the effect of society’s pressure on the body image and therefore mental wellbeing of young women and that many young women are seeking opportunities to reclaim their identities.  We have a duty to stand up against the negative stereotyping and unequal treatment that young women face so often and we frequently hear how the acceptance and equality found in Naturism can bring peace of mind.

Women in Focus Podcasts
The second campaign uses a longer podcast format to showcase the views of female Naturists in more depth.  Women In Naturism Officer, Helen Berriman, has interviewed a series of women with stories to tell about Naturism and about their lives and the podcasts are released at monthly intervals.  If you are looking for something to sink your teeth into about how nude recreation can have a positive impact on your life, they are certainly worth a listen.  Although the podcasts focus on the experiences of women, the stories will resonate with everybody and can be found here:

Volunteering at British Naturism: Sunfolk - can you help?

As we get ever closer to celebrating the re-opening of British Naturism: Sunfolk, we are seeking additional volunteers to help us prepare for and during the 2024 season. 
Sunfolk Wardens
This is an amazing opportunity to volunteer at British Naturism: Sunfolk as a Warden.  You will be responsible for coordinating, supporting and supervising people’s attendance at our Sunfolk site; in meeting their information, safety and welfare needs; and assisting with the delivery of an enjoyable and safe experience for all our guests and visitors.  You will also undertake regular checks and manage the site’s facilities; as well as meeting, greeting and checking-in guests and visitors to the site.
You will need to be reliable, well organised, have good hospitality and customer care skills and great interpersonal and verbal communication skills, along with an awareness of health and safety risks and a proactive attitude to mitigating them. 
Training as required and a ‘Warden’s Handbook’ will be provided with full support from existing wardens and the rest of the British Naturism: Sunfolk team.

Work Party Volunteers
This is a great opportunity to contribute to the next stage of the re-development of British Naturism: Sunfolk and undertake the work needed to ready the site for the next season (May to early October 2024).
You will need to be physically fit to undertake a variety of groundwork tasks, including preparing and seeding new lawns, clearing leaves, bulb planting, grass and hedge cutting, managing trees, shrubs and weed growth, clearing drainage ditches, painting and similar works.  We expect there will also be some moving and setting up tasks ahead of the site re-opening.
Experience of undertaking similar activities (at home, clubs or professionally) and a willingness to 'get stuck in' with others to get the job done is important.  Experience of using garden power tools or mechanical diggers, would be an advantage but is by no means essential! You will not be required to use any equipment you are unfamiliar with or are uncomfortable using.
We would welcome help from members who would like to spend one, two or several days as a member of our work parties, from 09:00 to 16:00.  Work party dates are shown below. Overnight stays can be accommodated on the Caravan/Motorhome bays or by crashing on a supplied mattress in a glamping pod (they are not fitted out yet). Unfortunately, due to the extremely wet weather recently we cannot yet support tent camping.

A New BN Region

A New BN Region

The EC recently concluded that Naturism in Northern Ireland had developed and grown to such an extent over the last five years or more that it is now the time to cut the apron strings of SANER region and create a separate one.
Members numbers in Northern Ireland have grown from the mid-twenties to over 100. Although they are small by comparison with other regions, a five-fold increase is impressive by any standard.
The SANER committee, especially Julliette and Ivan Gill, encouraged the local Regional Organisers, James Ingram and latterly Kev O'Connor to establish a local swim - which was for a long time the focus of Naturism in the region - and also lobbied the Police (PSNI) to accept the College of Policing Guidelines in Northern Ireland.
The region now has monthly naked yoga in Belfast, regular weekend camps over the summer months in Newcastle Co. Down, a vibrant Skinny Dipping community swimming in the Irish Sea and two other outdoor swimming lake venues in different parts of the country. We have started what may become a regular board games evening at a Belfast Games store and the jewel in the crown is our annual Great British Skinny Dip at Portstewart which this year will be on 1 September 2024.
Becoming a separate region also means that the relationship between BN and the Irish Naturist Association, (INA), can be strengthened as BN members support events organised by INA such as the monthly Monaghan swim just across the Border and the Cork Naked Bike Ride amongst others.
Let's wish every success to members in Northern Ireland as they establish an Organising Team to grow and support Naturism in this new region

The Forum Live - Ask the Executive

The next quarterly Ask the Executive session will take place Monday week, 11 March at 7:30pm.
It's a chance for members to meet and ask questions of British Naturism's Executive Committee and hear from officers and other volunteer role holders.
It's open to all British Naturism members and is expected to last an hour. Questions for the Directors and Executive Committee members on any relevant subject will be welcome. In this session, we'll spend some time introducing you to new BN Chair Colin Taylor, and find out about his role, plans and aspirations.

Next Monday (4 March) I am delighted to be able to welcome a representative from one of the world’s premier Naturist holiday resorts, Vritomartis, on the beautiful island of Crete. Overlooking the Libyan Sea and the White Mountains, Vritomartis offers a tranquil and relaxing environment for its guests. Vritomartis Naturist Resort is the only naturist resort in Crete and has been working since 1992.
We’ll hear about the history of the hotel and learn about the facilities it offers and the activities and excursions available to make a truly memorable holiday. We’ll also be bringing you a slideshow of images.

Join host Helen Berriman, BN's Women's Officer, for a new episode of the podcast from British Naturism, dedicated to celebrating and empowering women in the Naturist community. Our podcast is created by women for women, although we warmly invite men to join us and listen as well.
In each episode, we delve into insightful conversations, exploring various aspects of Naturism through the lens of womens' experiences. Whether you are a seasoned Naturist, new to the way of life or just intrigued, we aim to educate and inspire. We highlight the experiences, challenges, and triumphs of women in Naturism. Promoting body acceptance and self love, we explore how women across the planet have shed their clothes and freed up their minds, leading them toward a more fulfilling life in all areas; one that no longer keeps them restricted - emotionally, mentally, physically, and in all other ways.
Our next interview is with Siobhan Hazzan who is relatively new to the Naturist way of life, a concept which was utterly unimaginable for her just a few years ago. As an ordained pastor now living at the Naturist Foundation in Orpington, UK, she is joint chair of the Christian Naturist Fellowship, she has become an advocate for social nudity and doesn't hesitate to talk to anyone about it!

Parental Guidance - TV Show

Parental Guidance is a new TV series which observes comedienne Katherine Ryan juggling parenting and her career, and, they say, sees her investigating 'extreme' parenting techniques.
A section of Episode 4 was filmed at the Naturist Foundation's site at Brockenhurst, coinciding with their annual nude 5K run. Steve Paton, Trustee and race organiser, said:
"I am absolutely delighted with the way this documentary takes a lighthearted look at the benefits of naturism and in particular family naturism.  Helen and Simon Berriman and daughter Lizzie were great ambassadors to the cause and totally at ease with Katherine Ryan. While not a naturist herself, Katherine shows a good level of respect for the naturist lifestyle with many humorous quips and insightful questions that will hopefully be useful for people who want to give naturism a go.  Following the interviews the program follows Simon and Lizzie as they take part in the September naked BH5K.
 
The documentary crew could not have picked a more beautiful weekend to visit Brocken Hurst.  We had our hottest ever September race day as 200 runners braved temperatures of up to 30 degrees!  Hosepipes were on hand to spray the runners as they crossed the finish line and received their well-deserved medals.   Off camera the day continued with water war games, a BBQ and plenty of celebratory drinks at the outside bar!.”
The programme will be broadcast on the UKTV ‘W’ channel next Monday 26th February at 9pm.  For those who either cannot wait until Monday or miss the broadcast it can be viewed on the UKTV play app. The Naturism feature starts 25 minutes into the programme.

Following many successful group holidays for BN members to El Portús in Spain, we're delighted to bring you another - and booking is open! It runs for seven nights from 6 - 13 May 2024.
Situated on Spain’s Costa Calida and nestling in a sheltered, south-facing bay, with spectacular mountain and sea views, El Portús is the prime Naturist holiday destination in Southern Spain,  right on a nude beach, with swimming pool, restaurant, bar and shop. The cosmopolitan city of Cartagena, with Roman sites including a large theatre, museums, 15th Century Castle, Civil War refuges, art galleries, marina, shops, bars and restaurants is nearby.
The group will be led by BN members who will also arrange an activity programme to keep you busy and socialising.

Warmer days ahead for Young British Naturism

As the long nights start to draw to a close, the Summer 2024 season is just on the horizon. Even though it doesn’t always feel like it, the days are getting a little warmer, and we can see a light at the end of the wintry tunnel. With that comes continued planning for YBN. 2024 is shaping up to be a busy year, building on the great successes and increased engagement of 2023.
Over the last few months, we have finalised dates for five YBN exclusive club visits, including a ‘BBQ and Boardgames’ weekend at Harrogate Sun Club, and Sports Days at The Naturist Foundation and Yorkshire Sun Club. There is more to come too! Moving forward, YBN is hoping to have a greater presence at national events, such as the Windermere Woodlands Weekend, alongside calendar staples such as the NKD Festival in May and Everybody Festival in August. I always feel it is important that YBN is seen as an integral part of the British Naturism family, so that engagement with the wider community is essential. With the return of British Naturism: Sunfolk in 2024, a YBN and Families Weekend will also go ahead, which I know many people felt they missed last year with the ongoing renovation work.
We are also in the process of organising guided Naturist walks and meets at Naturist beaches - such as Morfa Dyffryn - in North Wales, to broaden regional offerings and cater for a wider variety of interests.
Our Spa Weekend in Cologne is going ahead this year, and plans are being formed for a YBN trip to a Naturist resort in France for 2025. Trips to resorts a little further from our shores have proven to be exceptionally popular, so this is an area we are very keen to develop, moving forward!
Efforts to engage new members with YBN continue, with many attending regular events even during the winter months at venues such as Clover Spa for their bi-monthly Young Clover weekends. New YBN members continue to be contacted on sign-up which continues to prove effective in ensuring that people have a starting point for their Naturist journey.
YBN, like BN as a whole, is volunteer led. Next Monday (26 February) we bring you an update on the work of the International Naturist Federation and in particular, EuNat, the sub-committee that looks after all things European.
The panel will consist of Anne Nisbet, BN's International Director, Edwin Kilby, former BN International Director and now INF-FNI Vice-President, regular The Forum Live guest Laurent Luft, INF European Assessor, and James Shuttleworth, recently appointed to the role of INF European Youth Officer.

Good Times for BN at the NEC

It was a very busy week for British Naturism at the NEC, Birmingham where we seized the opportunity to speak to the 100,000 visitors to the Caravan, Camping and Motorhome Show 2024.  Our team of seven volunteer ambassadors engaged approximately 1440 guests in meaningful conversation, over the six days, distributed around 2400 Guides to Naturism, and 500 'Challenge 60' Log Books. 
Our attendance delivers a number of objectives. The first is a chance to see and chat to British Naturism members - this year we met over 200 and also reconnected with many former members who we hope to see re-join, thus raising the profile and influence of British Naturism still further.  We also spoke to around 150 club members, who are not individual members of British Naturism, and leaders of some of our highest profile clubs.  In a year when work is underway to strengthen the links between British Naturism, individual members and clubs, this was a great opportunity to speak to people face-to-face.  Of course, the third aim is to reach non-Naturists and either inspire them to try it for themselves or at least make them aware and comfortable that Naturists exist, both were successful.
The topics of conversation were encouraging.  The EveryBody campaign was a hot subject, especially amongst those potentially interested in trying large-scale nude recreation for the first time.  The neon EveryBody sign that we had in position was certainly eye-catching and provoked questions.  We have also seen evolution in the way people communicate over the recent years with people more open about alternative lifestyles, meaning that opportunities to discuss things such as Naturism are increasing.  Curiously, while the number of very open people have increased, so have the number of people who are curious but timid.  Historically, it has tended to be the people we spoke to who took our literature away, this year it was more the case of either/or, so many attendees took a guide to contemplate in their own time, rather than discuss in the moment.  Both engagements mean the word is getting out.  In addition to those we shared information with directly, it was clear that many people at nearby stalls were talking about us and the presence of British Naturism, even though they were too nervous to engage.  This also is a success as it increases awareness and sets those many people on a path of possible discovery in the future.  The diversification in mindsets that we saw this week reflects that there are different ways to approach the promotion of Naturism.  It is certainly not the case that one size fits all and there are many opportunities ahead as we seek to spread the word.

Our popular Guide to Naturism has been updated for 2024 and is now available. It’s a comprehensive booklet that contains everything anyone
needs to know about Naturism, covering all aspects in a brief and easily digestible way.
Use it to persuade your friends to join BN, your colleagues to give social nudity a try, or your local leisure centre to host a skinny dip. We’ll be sending copies to clubs and swims, and taking piles of them to events for you to take away. We have printed many thousands of them and you can order them - for free! - from the BN shop.

The International Naturist Federation are pleased to announce a daytime indoor beach volleyball competition, where people can either play (all levels are invited to join in) or just enjoy the atmosphere. After the competition, the venue will transform into a big Naturist disco on the sand.

New INF European Youth Officer - James Shuttleworth

Like many of us, BN member James Shuttleworth, the newly appointed International Naturist Federation European Youth Officer, came to Naturism gradually. Before joining, he watched a handful of documentaries around social nudity and the social and mental health benefits it can bring. However, this wasn’t  enough of a push to give it a go as there was a big question to be answered… Where do you start? The idea was put on the backburner until a random Google search, over lockdown, reintroduced it. Within hours of heading down the rabbit hole he found BN’s website and became a member.
Since joining nearly three years ago, he has not only been to several domestic events but has spread his wings further by attending the International Naturist Federation (INF) European Youth Rally and the International Swimming Gala (pictured). At these events, he got to know Naturists from all over and saw first-hand that even though we all fall under the same umbrella, we view and follow the lifestyle in a completely different way culturally.
Seeing the additional benefits membership of an INF affiliated organisation brings, he was astonished to find out that few people from BN and the other federations were attending the European-level events, especially young people. At the recent International Swimming Gala, in Serbia, he says, you could count the number of young people from the whole of Europe on two hands. This, to him is a “terrible representational statistic” and something he wants to address personally.
As James explains, there are only a few European federations big enough to support large events such as NKD and Everybody Festival in their own country. This is mainly due to their low membership numbers and/or limited funds/resources.
James aims to increase integration across Europe – to enable members to get more out of their membership - through:
- Better education about the benefits of being part of the INF.
- Greater promotion of events and activities across the different federations.
 - Increased awareness of what the INF is and what it does for its members.
James is currently organising the INF European Youth Rally, which takes place north of Antwerp on the 9th – 12th May. The €100 fee includes:
All main meals from lunch on the 9th to breakfast on the 12th
Accommodation
Transport to and from Antwerp at the beginning and end of the event
Daytime activities with nightly entertainment

TheNakedTruth – Social Media Video Campaign

Naturists regularly tell us how much they love the peace and self confidence they find in nude recreation once they try it.  The challenge is how we help others searching for such things to find Naturism.  Similarly, many people are curious about Naturism but have questions they are too embarrassed to ask.

To address these needs, we have launched “TheNakedTruth” social media video campaign.  These soundbites cover the fun and the benefits to be found in Naturism, answer commonly asked questions and provide tips for people looking to give Naturism a try.  These clips are being released on Instagram, particularly: instagram.com/british_naturism and https://www.instagram.com/thenakedtruth_uk/

All released videos are also being added to our new You Tube channel, which can be found on You Tube.

Help us to spread the word by sharing the videos as they appear and liking and subscribing to the channels to raise visibility.  Naturism is brilliant, let us tell the world that.
