Next Monday (26 February) we bring you an update on the work of the International Naturist Federation and in particular, EuNat, the sub-committee that looks after all things European.
The panel will consist of Anne Nisbet, BN's International Director, Edwin Kilby, former BN International Director and now INF-FNI Vice-President, regular The Forum Live guest Laurent Luft, INF European Assessor, and James Shuttleworth, recently appointed to the role of INF European Youth Officer.
There's plenty to talk about and work going on, on many fronts. Join us on the night over in the BN shop.

It was a very busy week for British Naturism at the NEC, Birmingham where we seized the opportunity to speak to the 100,000 visitors to the Caravan, Camping and Motorhome Show 2024. Our team of seven volunteer ambassadors engaged approximately 1440 guests in meaningful conversation, over the six days, distributed around 2400 Guides to Naturism, and 500 'Challenge 60' Log Books.
Our attendance delivers a number of objectives. The first is a chance to see and chat to British Naturism members - this year we met over 200 and also reconnected with many former members who we hope to see re-join, thus raising the profile and influence of British Naturism still further. We also spoke to around 150 club members, who are not individual members of British Naturism, and leaders of some of our highest profile clubs. In a year when work is underway to strengthen the links between British Naturism, individual members and clubs, this was a great opportunity to speak to people face-to-face. Of course, the third aim is to reach non-Naturists and either inspire them to try it for themselves or at least make them aware and comfortable that Naturists exist, both were successful.
The topics of conversation were encouraging. The EveryBody campaign was a hot subject, especially amongst those potentially interested in trying large-scale nude recreation for the first time. The neon EveryBody sign that we had in position was certainly eye-catching and provoked questions. We have also seen evolution in the way people communicate over the recent years with people more open about alternative lifestyles, meaning that opportunities to discuss things such as Naturism are increasing. Curiously, while the number of very open people have increased, so have the number of people who are curious but timid. Historically, it has tended to be the people we spoke to who took our literature away, this year it was more the case of either/or, so many attendees took a guide to contemplate in their own time, rather than discuss in the moment. Both engagements mean the word is getting out. In addition to those we shared information with directly, it was clear that many people at nearby stalls were talking about us and the presence of British Naturism, even though they were too nervous to engage. This also is a success as it increases awareness and sets those many people on a path of possible discovery in the future. The diversification in mindsets that we saw this week reflects that there are different ways to approach the promotion of Naturism. It is certainly not the case that one size fits all and there are many opportunities ahead as we seek to spread the word.
We like to bring you news stories of forthcoming events - it spreads the word, encourages more people to book and shows just how vibrant the Naturist scene is in the UK. However - I'm happy to say - there are far too many to promote them all individually and so here is a complete list of all the events happening over just the next couple of weeks. Enjoy! And don't forget that we are always looking for reports on great gatherings for the magazine and elsewhere...

Our popular Guide to Naturism has been updated for 2024 and is now available. It’s a comprehensive booklet that contains everything anyone
needs to know about Naturism, covering all aspects in a brief and easily digestible way.
Use it to persuade your friends to join BN, your colleagues to give social nudity a try, or your local leisure centre to host a skinny dip. We’ll be sending copies to clubs and swims, and taking piles of them to events for you to take away. We have printed many thousands of them and you can order them - for free! - from the BN shop.
From that page you can also access the guide as an online booklet, making it dead easy to send a link to anyone you like. Do it today!
The International Naturist Federation are pleased to announce a daytime indoor beach volleyball competition, where people can either play (all levels are invited to join in) or just enjoy the atmosphere. After the competition, the venue will transform into a big Naturist disco on the sand.
It takes place in Paris on 20 April - click here to find out more including how to book your place!
Like many of us, BN member James Shuttleworth, the newly appointed International Naturist Federation European Youth Officer, came to Naturism gradually. Before joining, he watched a handful of documentaries around social nudity and the social and mental health benefits it can bring. However, this wasn’t enough of a push to give it a go as there was a big question to be answered… Where do you start? The idea was put on the backburner until a random Google search, over lockdown, reintroduced it. Within hours of heading down the rabbit hole he found BN’s website and became a member.
Since joining nearly three years ago, he has not only been to several domestic events but has spread his wings further by attending the International Naturist Federation (INF) European Youth Rally and the International Swimming Gala (pictured). At these events, he got to know Naturists from all over and saw first-hand that even though we all fall under the same umbrella, we view and follow the lifestyle in a completely different way culturally.
Seeing the additional benefits membership of an INF affiliated organisation brings, he was astonished to find out that few people from BN and the other federations were attending the European-level events, especially young people. At the recent International Swimming Gala, in Serbia, he says, you could count the number of young people from the whole of Europe on two hands. This, to him is a “terrible representational statistic” and something he wants to address personally.
As James explains, there are only a few European federations big enough to support large events such as NKD and Everybody Festival in their own country. This is mainly due to their low membership numbers and/or limited funds/resources.
James aims to increase integration across Europe – to enable members to get more out of their membership - through:
- Better education about the benefits of being part of the INF.
- Greater promotion of events and activities across the different federations.
- Increased awareness of what the INF is and what it does for its members.
James is currently organising the INF European Youth Rally, which takes place north of Antwerp on the 9th – 12th May. The €100 fee includes:
All main meals from lunch on the 9th to breakfast on the 12th
Accommodation
Transport to and from Antwerp at the beginning and end of the event
Daytime activities with nightly entertainment

Naturists regularly tell us how much they love the peace and self confidence they find in nude recreation once they try it. The challenge is how we help others searching for such things to find Naturism. Similarly, many people are curious about Naturism but have questions they are too embarrassed to ask.
To address these needs, we have launched “TheNakedTruth” social media video campaign. These soundbites cover the fun and the benefits to be found in Naturism, answer commonly asked questions and provide tips for people looking to give Naturism a try. These clips are being released on Instagram, particularly: instagram.com/british_naturism and https://www.instagram.com/thenakedtruth_uk/
All released videos are also being added to our new You Tube channel, which can be found on You Tube.
Help us to spread the word by sharing the videos as they appear and liking and subscribing to the channels to raise visibility. Naturism is brilliant, let us tell the world that.
Next Monday (19 February) on the Forum Live, we will be joined by Sorrel and Theo (pictured far left) from the Magic Teapot.
The Magic Teapot is a travelling acoustic music venue that first joined us at Nudefest in 2022 and proved an immediate hit. They have come to several of our festivals since, serving tea and music and have truly immersed themselves in Naturist festival life. Having already made it onto the cover of BN magazine including the current issue, Sorrel and Theo will share their own journeys with us and talk about their lives as travelling musicians. The Teapot will be joining us at both Nudefest and the Everybody festival this year, so if you are looking for a bit of insight into those festivals, this is a great way to gain it.
Listen to some of Sorrel’s music before then, it's certainly worth a visit.
Join the sessions on the night over in the BN shop

The BN Team are back at The NEC in Birmingham for the spring Caravan, Camping & Motorhome Show from 13 - 18 February on stand 4049.
Expected attendance is around 100,000 over the six days of the show and, as in previous years, we expect to be busy talking to people and handing out the BN Guide to Naturism to the thousands of visitors, and answering their questions about Naturism.
Maybe we'll see you there?
Creating an inclusive environment where all feel welcome is essential to British Naturism, as it should be to all organisations. As a group that sometimes faces discrimination, we know how hurtful such views can be. Consequently, we continually seek ways to improve inclusivity in all our activities and the arrangements we have to support diversity and this is an area where we can all contribute. As a result, we will use The Forum Live Debate next week (Monday 12 February) to think about how we support Equality and Diversity, identify the hurdles that compromise diversity, both in the organisation and the world at large, and see if there are actions that could be taken.
Please join us via the BN shop on the night, to share your perspectives and views so we can collectively improve British Naturism’s contribution to society.
We are delighted to announce the co-option of Colin Taylor as the new Chair of British Naturism.
Colin’s recent retirement has freed up the time to commit to issues that he is passionate about and central to those is Naturism, which Colin says he has benefitted from greatly. Colin’s professional background was in the ambulance service as a Paramedic and latterly holding various posts within Quality and Safety, including Head of Risk Management. He was a school governor of a local primary school for 19 years and Chair of the Trustees. He is also Chair of a Board of Trustees of a small charity and is involved in a number of other organisations in various roles. These credentials are second to none and plug into the positive impact of Naturism on health, the work we have before us to support young people, particularly in the area of mental wellbeing, and are backed up by his experience in governance.
Colin will be well known to many of you as he has for some time been a very active volunteer for British Naturism. He has been a regular Warden at British Naturism: Sunfolk, First Aider and Deputy Regional Organiser for LASER. He is a member of the BN GBSD/NHW/BHF team and has organised a number of swims and other events. One of Colin’s key stipulations in taking up the role is that he plans to continue to actively support the LASER region until a successor can be found and this approach is a brilliant way to bridge between national and regional initiatives.
So please join me in welcoming Colin to the position!
If you’ve ever wondered if Wales is a no-go area for Naturism, wonder no more! There are all kinds of events going on, and who better to talk about what’s happening in South Wales than Linda, BN’s SE Wales representative, part of BN's South West region.
Says Linda, BN members enjoyed a great social calendar in 2023 that included “canal boat trips, a visit to Gilston Manor Gardens (where we were treated to a guided tour of the gardens and some of the manor house which was finished off with a scrumptious afternoon tea, all in glorious sunshine) and various camping trips to Ty Canol, Dolcoed and Tything Barn”.
“South Wales has BN members spread out across a large area, and I often hear with a very heavy heart that nothing happens in Wales on the BN calendar.” Linda and others want to change that and put “Wales firmly on the Naturist social calendar.” Interested? As they say, many hands make light work!
What’s on so far?
The Coffee Afternoon - Building on her tremendous success, Linda is continuing the friendly coffee meet-up in Cardiff on the first Sunday of each month. This event is clothing optional, so feel free to bring along that friend who hasn't quite taken the step yet.
Nudie Dudie Swim Group - 3rd Sunday of the Month at the Llantwit Major Leisure Centre between 3.15pm and 4.30pm, then a meet and greet in a pub later.
Naturist Camping Weekend – 17-20 May 2024 - Three nights camping near Neath Abbey, hopefully incorporating a naked walk, a beach visit and a Nudie Dudie Swim. There are 8 EHU pitches and 7 non-serviced pitches at this private site with toilets, showers and a large polytunnel
Cambrian Mountains (pictured) Bunkhouse Naturist Weekend - 8 to 10 June 2024 - Organiser Bob has obtained access to a beautiful old Welsh cottage in the Cambrian Mountains where he promises “an escape from the pressures of life.” The Bunkhouse has 20 beds, cooking facilities and hot showers.
Western Swimming Club holds a weekly swim on a Friday evening from 8:15pm to 10pm at Chepstow Leisure Centre.
Day Visit to Steep Holm – 9 July 2024 - Steep Holm is a small island in the Bristol Channel. It lies offshore from Cardiff and Weston-Super-Mare. It’s isolated, has a fascinating history and lots of natural splendour. Access is via small boat and are leaving Cardiff at 07:30 and Weston Super Mare at 08:30.
Wow! What a weekend it was at The Suncliff Hotel Bournemouth for the first major BN LIVE event of 2024! This was a fantastic short break that showered FUN and EXCITEMENT from the off.
Eagerly we entered the premises, to see so many smiling faces greeting us as we approached reception. The process was unbelievably smooth and so, with our dining preferences sorted and photo wristbands collected, the weekend had started. Eventually, ‘Clothes-Off’ time arrived, signalling us to free ourselves of the trappings of textile life and enter a bubble, (not to be confused with the dreaded Covid-type), where everyone was actually HAPPY, generating vibes that were quite something.
We were soon ravenously tucking into an amazing carvery, with three meats on offer and mounds of lovely veg. After a scrumptious pudding, it was time to find a good spot in the bar for the evening’s entertainment - ‘The Beatles Experience’, an excellent tribute band who played (it seemed) almost every one of the Fab Four’s number one songs. As usual at BN events, the dance floor was immediately crammed with happy, smiling, excited people giving it all they had. Even once the band had departed the music continued, with a disco until late, and the dancing never stopped.
We awoke on Saturday to a bright sunny day and so many party-goers took advantage of the lovely weather and went for a stroll along the clifftop or into town. We decided to try Meditation with Roy who carefully explained the difference between meditation and sleeping, before taking us through the process. Soft music helps apparently, and it seemed to work for some, who reported seeing various colours appearing in their vision. Macrame and other craft activities were laid on for us to try - as well as a dip in the hotel’s swimming pool - or we could go for The VR Experience. Ian Munt, BN Sports Officer, arranged a squash competition on the hotel’s courts which was well attended. The afternoon brought us a fun quiz to test the old grey cells then we tried ‘Sit Down Circuits’ with Roy. ‘It can’t be that bad if we’re sitting down,’ we thought, but no way was it easy and it was definitely painful, I can tell you, but apparently ‘there’s no gain without pain’. As a reward, we ‘collapsed’ in the bar and listened to the excellent music of Phil Collins Tribute, the audience joining in with many of the well-known songs. After another scrumptious dinner it was time for light-hearted bingo with some fantastic prizes before the music and dancing returned with the incredible Elton John tribute. He was amazing, working his audience to a frenzy. The whole place was alive with naked people dancing wherever there was a space. Arms were raised punching the air, with everyone laughing, jumping up and down and generally having a fantastic time. ‘Elton’ kept it going for much longer than his allotted time and seemed to be relishing every minute. We were thoroughly exhausted by the time he did leave the stage but the music continued with a disco until late.
Sunday brought more meditation, sit-down exercises, and craft activities, but we tried indoor archery, which was more difficult than it appeared but great fun. The VR experience was available to try again and there was always swimming, sauna or gym work available. A pool competition was arranged in the bar followed by the obligatory Music Quiz which was testing but good fun. After another tasty dinner we were entertained by Karaoke with some excellent singers - well done to them all. Then‘Rod Stewart’, jumped on stage and of course, the dancing began immediately with many dancers accessorising with tartan caps, scarves, and spectacles.
Too soon it was Monday, boo, that brought the dreaded ‘Clothes-On’ call, and after a hearty breakfast it was time to bid our farewells and wend our way home. Sad as this moment was, we were left with many wonderful memories of a magical weekend. Well done Mark, your team of dedicated helpers and all the staff at the hotel. We’ll be back next year to do it all again so come and join us.
Join host Helen Berriman, BN's Women's Officer, for a new episode of the podcast from British Naturism, dedicated to celebrating and empowering women in the Naturist community. Our podcast is created by women for women, although we warmly invite men to join us and listen as well.
In each episode, we delve into insightful conversations, exploring various aspects of Naturism through the lens of womens' experiences. Whether you are a seasoned Naturist, new to the way of life or just intrigued, we aim to educate and inspire. We highlight the experiences, challenges, and triumphs of women in Naturism. Promoting body acceptance and self love, we explore how women across the planet have shed their clothes and freed up their minds, leading them toward a more fulfilling life in all areas; one that no longer keeps them restricted - emotionally, mentally, physically, and in all other ways.
Episode three is available to listen to now and features Angela de la Cruz, a promoter of nudism and adventurer living in Guadalajara, Mexico. She also runs online clothing-optional Spanish language and yoga classes. She is fairly recent convert to naturism which helped her overcome the traumas of her past, reclaim her sense of self - and changed her life.

Next Monday, 5 February, I will have the pleasure of talking to Ella Foote - author, editor and outdoor swimming expert. She is Editor at Outdoor Swimmer magazine, the world’s only monthly magazine dedicated to outdoor swimming. She is also Director of Dip Advisor, a swim guiding business helping people enjoy wild water. Ella’s first book, How to Wild Swim: What to Know Before Taking the Plunge was published last year. Ella also teaches swimming to children and adults, is an Open Water Coach and RLSS Open Water Lifeguard.
A renowned swimming journalist Ella writes for all sorts of national media, often about swimming, environment, mental health or body image. She has had by-lines in The Guardian, The Times. Stylist Magazine, The Simple Things, Country File magazine and various smaller titles. She has appeared on several podcasts and has featured in a variety of television programmes.
An intrepid swim explorer, she is constantly seeking out new rivers, lakes, ponds, seas and pools to plunge into. She enjoys swimming in all seasons and has completed swims like an English Channel relay crossing, 24-hour swim challenge, the Thames Marathon 14k and the Dart 10k, as well as smaller more joyful dips and dunks across the country. You can follow her and her swimming on Instagram.
With one of our Campaigns for 2024 being related to Wild Swimming and the Great British Skinny Dip already listing more events than in previous years it's a great time for us to make links with people like Ella - and perhaps work on collaboration?

“Spring Break” means one thing to American college students: a trip to some sunny beach, days of partying - and general mayhem. For we Naturists, however, it means a fantastic four-day break in Blackpool packed with indoor and outdoor activities, with lots of opportunities for social nudity.
This year’s 18-22 March Spring Break again takes place at the comfortable President Hotel, which overlooks the prom in North Shore. It offers gorgeous sea views from the restaurant and a cabaret lounge with excellent nightly entertainment. New this year – and included in the ticket price are two coach trips, one to the world-famous Skipton Market, the other to Bygone Times in Chorley, which is packed with antique, retro and craft stalls. The package also includes dinner, bed and breakfast and entertainment.
What better way to spend four days in March? Book here for the Blackpool Spring Break and prepare for a treat. Just keep the general mayhem to a minimum!
We like to bring you news stories of forthcoming events - it spreads the word, encourages more people to book and shows just how vibrant the Naturist scene is in the UK. Looking for a way to keep fit and healthy in these cold, dark days of Winter? Plymouth Sun Club is a Naturist club that has been established over several years, swimming at Plympton pool on the first Monday of each month at 8.30pm, enjoying the exhilarating freedom of swimming without costumes.
Many try Naturism through skinny-dipping or going topless at a beach on holiday and discover a positive, relaxing experience that teaches acceptance of their body with all its imperfections, and their confidence grows.
Taboos around nudity are eroding and the health and well-being benefits of going naked are more widely understood, with more and more people wanting to get those fantastic, life-affirming feelings for themselves. In an Ipsos poll, commissioned in 2022 by British Naturism revealed (pun intended!) that 14% of respondents would describe themselves as Naturists or nudists. That’s 6.75 million adults in the UK! Even better, a much larger proportion (39%) said they had taken part in recreation, without clothing with swimming without a costume being the most popular.
Scientific research has even proved that social nudity boosts self-esteem, happiness and life satisfaction.
Matthew Day, Plymouth Sun Club Press and Publicity Officer, said:
“We’re a friendly, welcoming group of all ages and shapes and sizes who come from all walks of life and thoroughly enjoy costume-free swimming. It’s great fun, and sociable too - we always end our sessions over a drink in the pub! So if you are a seasoned naturist or a first timer wanting to take the plunge, come along, you won’t regret it.”
Visit their new website at plymouthsunclub.org.uk to find out more.
We have people willing to be interviewed/photographed and stock photos for media use.
Media attendance at the swim is possible, with advance notice, please.

Wishing all guests a great time at the 'Best of British' Naturist weekend at the Suncliff hotel in Bournemouth - our first big event of the year!
An awesome weekend awaits with entertainment with a British pop focus and activities during the day. The hotel also has an indoor swimming pool, sauna, squash courts, mini gym, dance and fitness studio and plenty of space to dance and party!
Stop Press: Two rooms have become available! Check out the booking pages for details.
British Naturism is a busy, active, meaningful organisation and does a huge amount of work in persuading the outside world to accept Naturism, to normalise nudity, and to encourage people to try it for themselves. We're really good at it! The more members we have the more we can do, and showing that our numbers are growing opens many doors.
Our Ipsos poll showed that there are millions of Naturists in the UK. Plenty of Naturists are active in clubs and swims around the UK. Why aren't they all members of BN?
Next Monday on The Forum Live I will giving a presentation about how BN goes about reaching people that don't need to be told how wonderful Naturism is and persuade them to join us, to the mutual benefit. There will be lots of practical advice and references to resources that we can all use to help those non-member Naturists to make the great decision to become a member of BN! Thinking caps on - who are YOU going to sign up?
Join me on the night, over in the the BN shop
BN advertisers Boris and Dana run Tedabo - skipper & hostess services, a small Naturist sailing cruise company. They often take clothed passengers to allow a cruise to set sail, but being Naturists themselves much prefer naked guests! They’ve asked us to let BN members know that they have decided to host two weeks this summer where it’s guaranteed that they will be entertaining nude passengers. The dates are 15th - 22nd June, and 7th - 14th September. They could be perfect escapes for a group of friends.
naturistcroatia.com/catamaran-sailing-cruise-croatia/
Please note that these trips are not official BN holidays nor affiliated with BN in any way. Other Naturist Federations have been asked to promote them too.
We’re well on the way to completing the major project to redevelop the Sunfolk site in St Albans that BN were privileged to be able to take on back in 2020, and we’re looking forward to reopening the site to BN members and other Naturists later this year.
If you can’t wait until then and would like a ‘sneak peek’ at what has been going on, then you might want to join one of the tours of the site which will be held in February.
The tours will be held at 09:30, 11:00, 13:00 and 15:00 on Saturday 03 February, and at 09:30 and 11:30 on Saturday 24 February.
Jon Williams, our volunteer Sunfolk project co-ordinator, will lead the tours which will last around an hour and give you an opportunity to see some of the new facilities that will be available at the site for yourself and ask any questions that you have about the project.
Tours will be open to BN members only and will need to be booked in advance, so if you would like join us then drop Jon a line at jon.williams@bn.org.uk with your name, membership number, and the date and time of the tour you’d like to join.
