We like to bring you news stories of forthcoming events - it spreads the word, encourages more people to book and shows just how vibrant the Naturist scene is in the UK. However - I'm happy to say - there are far too many to promote them all individually and so here is a complete list of all the events happening over just the next couple of weeks and big events taking place later. It's World Naked Hiking Day!

On Friday, 21 June, the Summer Solstice, intrepid people around the globe will throw off their clothes and celebrate World Naked Hiking Day. It’s a fantastic way for Naturists and those who want to experience the joy of being outside in the buff to cheer the arrival of summer. There is plenty of activity in the UK!
BN’s Eastern Region walks co-ordinator Andrew Roch said:
‘The aim of the campaign is to get people to realise that being naked is not abnormal. Much of the naked hiking we do is tied to the premise of supporting a charity but World Naked Hiking Day for me is to just get out there and enjoy being naked in nature for the sheer pleasure of doing so.
‘It has all sorts of benefits, including well being, the sense of freedom, taking exercise, and allowing the body to make up some of the vitamin D deficiency that so many people in the UK suffer from or take medication to correct. On one or two of the walks there is also the opportunity for the odd skinny dip!
 
Andrew Welch, spokesman for BN said:
‘In the UK, Naturists including BN and its members have worked hard to clarify the law and educate people to the simple fact that being naked in public is not illegal. The law is clear that a naked person must have the intention to cause alarm and distress. If they are unclothed simply to enjoy the health and well-being benefits and feel the warmth of the sun on their skin, no such intention exists. Experience shows that people encountering a group of naked walkers might be surprised or amused but also often intrigued, asking many questions.

Nudefest - Thursday

It was another lovely hot day at Nudefest yesterday with plenty going on and that chilled, community atmosphere was all around. Everyone will have their own highlight, but the crowd of people listening and dancing to Razzomo (we love the way Lucy and James strip off to perform) in the field in the sunshine, the Magic Teapot (we love the way the team strip off to perform) welcoming everyone to listen or to play /sing themselves, and our comedy night in a packed Cirque pavilion raising the rafters with our laughter (we loved the way Javier stripped off to perform) would be among most people's. Oh, I did I mention the joy of lazing around in the sunshine?
Today will kick off with national attention being paid. Watch Lorraine on ITV around 9.05am for our live broadcast and the film they made yesterday. Thanks to everyone who was willing to be involved, even if we proved that Naturists can't play volleyball even with twenty players on each side!
The fun then carries on with a craft session, two talks including Free Wilders - foragers Colin and Sadie with the addition of a guided walk around the lake, fitness, yoga (I believe it's International Yoga Day today), gong bath, sports and games, karaoke, a wine tasting and a holi paint skirmish. The circus comes to town with two sessions, and we're looking forward to hearing the amazing, energetic Old Time Sailors and a UV party tonight with the 'Noughty Nineties" band.
Sun's up, so let's get on with it!

29 June will be the second time we've visited Ripon, Yorkshire's Himalayan Garden and Sculpture Park, exploring 45 acres of beautifully planted woodland gardens, with striking sculptures, lakes and an arboretum. Tickets still available!

Nudefest - Wednesday

...and the sun shone all day. We all love the activities and our happy community, but, boy, good weather makes it even better! And the site is bathed in sunlight as I write this too!
That community spirit was exemplified again yesterday with groups of naked people trying their hand at willow crafting, relaxing in the sun listening to live music from Bud Martin (a two-hour set), buying drinks in the bar, taking advantage of the many food stalls, pushing themselves in the group fitness session, catching up with friends (and making new ones), and enjoying competing at various sports and games. The pop quiz was as popular—and raucous—as ever and in the evening we spent close on three hours, letting our hair down with Piano Jam who played hits from everything from Billy Joel to The Killers. If you are reading this and have never danced naked and barefoot on the grass amongst an enthusiastic crowd of friends, then add it to your bucket list!
The tempo goes up a notch today. We expect an influx of new guests who will choose activities from yoga and 'gong bath' meditation, crafts, bubble workshop, Bud Martin's talk 'In Search of Aliens', a external visit (clothed on the journey, nude at the venue) to the Cider Brandy Farm - we are in Somerset, after all - more sports and games, sauna and massage, acoustic afternoon Balkan folk music from Razzomo, and karaoke.
The Magic Teapot are now here and we're looking forward to great music and cups of tea. Tonight we welcome comedians off the telly followed by a late-night silent disco. Representatives from our charity partner British Heart Foundation will be setting up an information stall and giving CPR training. If that was not enough, ITVs Lorraine show (not the good lady herself) are coming to film some short clips in advance of our live appearance on the show tomorrow morning. 
Phew! Having fun can be exhausting!

Rhodes works for Naturists

One of the destinations that lends itself perfectly to nude recreation is Greece. In addition to a large mainland, there are over 200 inhabited islands (and thousands more that aren’t) with a resulting coast line that might never been measured entirely, containing a multitude of glorious sandy beaches, perfect for lazing about when you have nothing on. The weather’s not bad either. It’s surprising, therefore, that the number of Naturist places to stay is the lowest in Europe. With the exception, perhaps, of Luxembourg.
And so, I’m pleased to report on a new Naturist hotel - Viva Tourismo on the island of Rhodes in the Dodecanese. Some readers will remember or even have visited Naturist Angel Hotel on that same island - we even ran a group holiday there back in the day. Viva Tourismo is owned and operated by the same people, Nikos (Nick) and Eleni, who have now built their own venue a short way up the road and closer to the beach. As inferred, it’s brand new with all mod cons (that’s ‘conveniences’ not ‘Conservatives’) with a really stunning swimming pool and surrounding area, with plenty of squashy sunbeds and parasols, and a gate that gives direct access to the beach and the sea. The pool is filled with spring water and kept clean by a method that doesn’t involve chemicals. A hot tub is planned for 2025.
Accommodation is on a half-board basis and the quality is superb, everything cooked fresh in the hotel kitchen. In fact, ‘fresh’ doesn’t do it justice as the majority of what is on your plate is grown in the hotel grounds. I asked Nick to take me on a tour. As a new venue it’s a work-in-progress but I counted 28 different items of produce including fruit trees, vegetables, salads and herbs. There’s a long line of banana plants. Nick picked a small, green one that you might reject in Aldi. ‘Eat!’ he said, thrusting it in my direction. It was the sweetest banana I’d ever tasted. There is no menu as such, with everyone being served the same - starter and main course - but guests are asked about allergies/dislikes on arrival. I particularly enjoyed my tzatziki, souvlaki, and a beef stew with orzo pasta.
At breakfast there is a table with tea and coffee, bread for toasting, condiments and fruit, with each guest also being served a tray laden with goodies such as egg and bacon, olive-oil doused slices of cucumber and tomato, bread and butter and a slice of cake. Guests can choose what to eat at lunch (not included in the room price) from a menu containing classic Greek dishes, freshly-made pizza or salad. The chicken Caesar salad and another I had with poached salmon, avocado and perfect hard-boiled eggs would have happily graced the tables of a top eaterie.
The dining room is adjacent to the pool area—with great views of the sea beyond and stunning sunsets—and the shiny bar area which is open most of the day, and well-stocked, with a happy-hour in the late afternoon. The 14 double-rooms have—in addition to the obvious—room-safe, satellite TV, extra bedding, air-conditioning and a patio overlooking the garden. There’s a wet room with rain shower, shower gel and a hair-dryer. Wifi is free. Massage is available and the hotel people will help you hire a car which will be brought to the resort.
Nudity is permitted everywhere with a request that at least bottom halves are covered at mealtimes, though it doesn’t seem that this rule is policed too rigorously.
A visit to Rhodes Town is a must. There is a bus every hour from a stop a short stroll from the hotel. I’d never been on a Greek bus before and so decided to add it to my portfolio of experiences. I remembered my many hours languishing in the cold rain waiting for buses in central London and concluded that standing in the hot, Greek sunshine for up to an hour was something I could happily endure … but 90 minutes later I hadn’t seen a single bus in either direction. I called a cab from the hotel and within twenty-minutes driver Dimitris—full of interesting tales of when he played professional football for Panathinaikos (he showed me pictures)—deposited me just outside the walls of the old city. Rhodes Town is steeped in history, much of it connected to the times of the Knights Hospitaller in the 14th Century, with ramparts and castellated towers, gardens, beautiful cobbled streets and squares, pavement cafés and shady restaurants and—I hardly need mention it—souvenir shops, though of a better quality than I’ve usually seen. I people-watched over a lunch of Gyros and a beer at Filippos taverna, and walked past rows of colossal yachts to where the Colossus of Rhodes, one of the Seven Ancient Wonders of the World, used to stand at the harbour entrance, and marvelled at the sheer size of the Royal Caribbean cruise ship in port and the crocodile of weary guests winding their way back towards it, many swinging shoes from their fingers after a last-minute paddle.
There is one huge advantage to a holiday at Viva Tourismo which also has a downside that I must mention. Rhodes airport is so close that you can literally be swimming in the pool within half an hour of touching down. That does mean that planes fly over as they take off or land but the noise lasts less than half a minute. I chatted to other guests (Belgian, German, Swedish - over a drink, natch) about it and we all agreed it was quite a thing on arrival, but soon became normal and we didn’t notice it. I must say, it was fantastic to be buying my duty-frees less than 20 minutes after checking out of the hotel.
Viva Tourismo is open from April to early November and I was advised that the later months are the best! They’d love to do a BN group holiday too, and so we’ll look into that…

Nudefest - Tuesday

What a start! Over 400 guests arrived yesterday, with plenty more to come as the week progresses. Thanks to the volunteer team who checked everyone in, handed out wristbands and made sure everyone was pitched successfully. The bar and catering stalls opened at 5pm and we were off.
With the number of people in the Cirque tent and those at home, the Forum Live was one of the most popular ever and we learned all about Nudefest, past and present. The 3 Sixties played toe-tapping numbers and we sang along, dancing our feet off until late. They could hear the calls for 'more!' in Yeovil (possibly).
So, what does today have in store? Willow crafting, group fitness, pétanque, volleyball and mölkky, an introduction to our Safe Spaces policy, music from Bud Martin, a pop quiz and all rounded off with the return of Nudefest favourite, Piano Jam, the Las Vegas-style duelling piano show.
The best news is there isn't a cloud in the sky...

Nudefest - Monday

...and so it starts, the UK's biggest Naturist event gets underway today. With its origins in 2007 and Cornwall, prompted by a nude visit to the world-famous Eden Project, 2024's festival will be the 18th year of Nudefest (though we missed one year because of lockdown).
Hundreds of guests will descend through the day (myself included) on Thorney Lakes and get settled. The bar and food stalls are open from 5pm and the Forum Live will 'broadcast' live in the early evening, followed by a performance from 'The 3 Sixties' playing music from that decade.
ITVs Lorraine show are coming later in the week and so once again, we find the cream of the UK's TV world beating a path to our door and helping us to spread the word!

Press release from British Naturism: It's Time for Nudefest 2024

Nudefest - the biggest Naturist event in the UK!
Since its inception in 2007 as a small, weekend event, Nudefest has become the UK's biggest Naturist festival, attracting hundreds of people each year for a week of full-on fun and excitement, among like-minded people.
This year, it runs from 17 - 23 June at Thorney Lakes Caravan and Camping Park, Langport, Somerset once again.
 
The packed seven-night programme includes:
Live music every night plus silent discos, The Magic Teapot, karaoke, acoustic sets, disco ceilidh and pop quizzes

The Forum Live - Live from Nudefest

The Forum Live hits the road! Next Monday's session will come from Thorney Lakes Camping and Caravan Park, the location for British Naturism's (and the UK's) biggest Naturist festival!
I'll be chatting to Nudefest's organiser, BN's event manager Mark Walsh about the event and what's in store for guests in 2024. If the weather behaves we'll also do a tour of the site and show off the various venues where the huge range of activities will take place. Perhaps some guests will be wiling to speak about why they go and what they get out of the event.

Great British Skinny Dip at Petersfield - this Friday!

Here’s something for you swimmers. Petersfield Open Air Swimming Pool in Hampshire is having a Great British Skinny Dip. Even better, the pool is heated to 27 degrees (always welcome in our changeable climate!), and there’s a café serving hot and cold drinks and snacks and a BBQ.
As I have said in other news stories, we're always talking about how wonderful it would be to secure new venues for nude recreation and here's one that usually entertains people with costumes but happy to host nude swimmers for the second year. Please make use of the opportunity if you can, and pave the way for more skinny dips here in the future.

Next Naked Heart Walk - this Saturday!

15 June will be the second time we've visited Leonardslee Gardens, near Horsham, Surrey for a Naked Heart Walk. It’s a walk of up to 5k, mostly in a picturesque valley with a string of lakes, in partnership with and raising funds for British Heart Foundation. The café will be open.

British Naturism is the UK member of the International Naturist Federation, the global organisation for Naturists that exists to represent, support and coordinate Naturist activity worldwide. If you are a BN member, you are automatically a member of the INF! You can find out more at inf-fni.com. 
Their newsletter - Focus - is published every two months and provides an update as to what’s going on in the INF and beyond. The latest edition includes reports on the international beach volleyball tournament and the ENY youth gathering in Belgium with updates from France, Hungary, Switzerland, Brazil and even an event celebrating the language of Esperanto!

Volunteers' Week - Day 7

A PERSONAL POINT OF VIEW
I took on the role of Volunteering Officer because I fundamentally believed that Naturism is beneficial to all and there was so much more that could be done, if only we had the volunteers that could make things happen.
I have recently been looking back over the last 60 years of BN for an article to be published in the summer issue of the BN Magazine.  It has been an interesting voyage of discovery with so many great initiatives started and so many volunteers involved.  But I also got a strong sense that we had not achieved our full potential.  Over the years we have had so many good initiatives started but not completed because of changes of direction, lack of resources, and a failure to prioritise.  During that time many willing volunteers have become overloaded with work and been unable to carry on.
This is common in many volunteer-involving organisations and hopefully we have learned the lessons.  Creating less demanding roles can help – such as having Regional Events Officers responsible for different types of events (garden visits, naked dining etc.) and creating Teams.  Teams are important.  They enable people to work together, share ideas and responsibilities, and support one another.  This approach is working and we have more volunteers than we have had in a long while.
As I journeyed through the last 60 years, I could not help but reflect on the commitment of all these people who had given their time, skills and energy for the future of Naturism in Britain; many of them whilst still managing a job and family life.  Many of the contributors to the magazine articles I read were active in the organisation and some of those volunteers are no longer with us.  But we should remember them and value their contribution to getting BN to where it is today.  They were the ones making history.
You can help make history by volunteering with British Naturism and contributing in some small way to the next 60 years of BN’s history.  Don’t leave it to others to make that happen – if you can help in anyway, please do volunteer and lend a hand.

HELPING OTHERS TO GET ACTIVE
We have a growing team of Regional Sports Officers.  Their role is to lead the development of the region's involvement in naturist sport and undertake the coordination, organisation, promotion and support of naturist sports activities, events and competitions within the region.  Key Activities include:
Planning and delivery of regional sports activities, events and competitions Advising on rules and requirements of naturist sports Contact point on naturist sports Ceremonial functions Arranging judges and officials Promoting naturist sports, health and wellbeing benefits. Skills Needed
Experience or enthusiasm for organising sports Well organisation with attention to detail Event management skills Enthusiasm to encourage others’ participation Written and verbal communication skills Interpersonal skills Willingness to talk about naturism and sport in a public arena. Where: there are vacancies for this role within the Eastern, South West, North West, London & South East, and Yorkshire & East Midlands regions.

Skinny Dip at Peterborough Lido!

As part of the Great British Skinny Dip, we're delighted to bring you another opportunity to enjoy this fantastic Art Deco outdoor pool complex as nature intended!
There are sun-bathing terraces, a large grass lawn and a café offering a wide range of refreshments.
It's not long ago that the idea of naked swims in locations like these would have been unthinkable, so please do make use of the opportunity.

Volunteers' Week - Day 5

BEACH LOVERS
We have a growing team of Regional Beach Officers.  Their role is to ensure that information on our naturist beaches (such as suitable travel routes, parking, access, safety and facilities) is accurate, up-to-date and informative; as well as coordinating access to local beaches; promoting their use by naturists and the general public; maintaining contact with local authorities, landowners and others that manage access to beaches and lobbying for more signage.
Our team of volunteer Beach Officers cover designated beaches or coastline.  As well as coordinating access to local beaches and promoting their use by naturists and the general public, the role might also include organising Beach Days, skinny dips and clean-up events.  So if you love visiting beautiful bare beaches and could help others access them too, then this is the ideal role for you!  This exciting role is full of variety and is ideally suited for anyone interested in sun, sea and sand.
Besides having a knowledge of naturist beaches in their area (or a willingness to acquire this); good research and recce skills and an enthusiasm for promoting naturist beaches to the wider public are needed.  It is highly flexible and will depend on the availability of the volunteer, the seasonal nature of the role and the need to address any particular issues associated with beaches in the locality.  Ideal as a home-based opportunity with travel to local beaches.
In the South West Region, Regional Beach Officers are needed for specific beaches or coastline, including Cornwall South Coast, Cornwall North Coast, Devon North Coast, and South Wales.
In the London & South East Region, Regional Beach Officers are needed for specific beaches or coastline, including Hampshire (East), East and West Sussex, and Kent.
In the Eastern Region, Regional Beach Officer(s) are needed for specific beaches or stretch of coast along the Norfolk, Suffolk and Essex coastlines.
In the Yorkshire and East Midlands Region Regional Beach Officer(s) are needed for the Yorkshire and the Lincolnshire Coastlines.

Naturist Visit to Dorothy Clive Gardens

Naked Shropshire and the North West Region of British Naturism are arranging an evening visit to the gardens, near Market Drayton in Shropshire,TF9 4EU on the evening of Wednesday 12th June.
As in previous years tea and coffee will be on sale and you are welcome to take a picnic. 
It's a beautiful place - come and enjoy it once again, as nature intended!

Volunteers' Week - Day 4

GREAT REGIONAL TEAMS
Let us not forget the tremendous work undertaken by our Regional Teams, all of whom rely on volunteers.  Our Regional Teams are at the heart of British Naturism, organising an array of activities and events, promoting naturism and looking after the interests of members.
In addition to admin roles and looking after clubs and members in each region, there are a wide variety of regional events taking place, as well as two regional meetings each year.  Local walks, naked dining, spa days, garden visits, beach days, skinny dipping events, and visits to museums, galleries and other places of interest that all require volunteers to make them happen.
Each Region has a Regional Organiser and a Deputy Regional Organiser.  Other roles vary from region to region but there are vacancies for Regional Administrators, Regional PROs, Regional Sports Officers, Regional Events Officers, Local Events Organisers or teams of Regional Event Stewards, Regional Families Coordinators, Walks Coordinators and Area Contacts.  There will also be volunteers who take on organising or coordinating the regional events.

Have you done a World Naked Bike Ride?

The World Naked Bike Ride is worldwide campaign whose objectives are to protest against the global dependency on oil, curb car culture, obtain real rights for cyclists, and demonstrate the vulnerability of cyclists on city streets. Nudity is used to attract attention and led to another aim - celebrating body freedom.
They are not BN events, nor 'Naturist' events per se, but they have contributed to the acceptance of Naturism. The rides attract thousands of riders and are incredibly well-run by a collective of passionate volunteers, and now appear in multiple UK towns and cities. 
And it's massive fun - taking place in a carnival atmosphere - flags, whistles, music, body-paint. Nudity isn't mandatory and the naked the dressed and everywhere in between participate - including loads of people who've never been anywhere near naked in public before. Take your friends and show them just what fun clothes-free living can be.

Volunteers' Week - Day 3

THANKING OUR VOLUNTEERS
The contribution of volunteers is often unseen and unrecognised by many, visible only through the incredible impact of their volunteering.  So taking the time during Volunteers’ Week to recognise, celebrate and thank our incredible volunteers for all they contribute to our community, as well as the voluntary sector and society as a whole, has never been more important.
Volunteers’ Week is a great opportunity to thank our volunteers.  If you would like to leave a message below thanking particular volunteers or a specific group of volunteers, please do so.  Your appreciation and encouragement will be very welcome.
 
WHO’S YOUR HERO?
Do you know somebody whose contribution to the cause of Naturism has been exceptional and whom you think BN should recognise by the award of a Certificate of Merit?
The Executive Committee welcomes nominations for Certificates of Merit from members.  Certificates are usually awarded at the AGM, and in order to allow the EC to give proper consideration to nominations we're asking for these no later than 15 July 2024.
Nominees don't have to be members – indeed certificates have in the past been awarded to people outside BN whose contribution has been considered exceptional.  And the nominee could be a single person or a group, such as a club, couple, team or company.

BECOMING A VOLUNTEER
Want to volunteer but don’t know where to start?  Volunteers’ Week is a great time to find out more.
There are all kinds of volunteering roles and short term or micro volunteering assignments you could do.

To register as a BN volunteer, or to register your interest in volunteering with British Naturism, visit our Volunteer Connect platform, which is part of the BN website (Members Area > Volunteering > My Volunteering Profile).  Alternatively, use the direct link.
It will take you less than two minutes to create your own volunteering profile (perhaps a little longer if you want to add content to the text-free boxes).  Once you have completed and saved this you are registered as a BN volunteer.
When you use our Volunteer Connect platform you will be able to access guidance on becoming a volunteer (if you are new to volunteering), view our volunteering opportunities and apply for them online, manage your own contact details, download guidance, read our latest volunteering news and share your views through the BN Forum.
