An Ipsos poll recently commissioned by British Naturism reveals that 14% (equating to 6.75 million adults) of people in the UK describe themselves as Naturists or Nudists. A similar poll conducted in 2011 confirmed the figure at 3.7 million (6%). The fact that Brits are increasingly opting to strip off doesn’t come as a surprise to British Naturism since it reinforces what the organisation already knows – that people of all ages are increasingly turning to healthy, body-positive, clothes-f

Rebookings for our first event of the calendar year – the Bournemouth Weekender – are now complete, and tickets are officially on open sale. If you’ve been waiting for your moment, this is it. January on the south coast might be brisk, but inside the hotel we’ll be turning up the temperature. Think reggae rhythms, full-on summer party energy, and a spectacular tribute to George Michael to close the weekend in style. This is the On The Beach Weekender, even if it’s midwinter outside. The big event of the weekend was the National Swimming Gala and Festival of Sport in Watford – and what a weekend it turned out to be! More than one hundred competitors took part, all aiming to beat personal bests and, of course, earn a bit of friendly bragging rights. In the pool, the four main strokes were contested across a wide range of age groups, alongside relays, medleys and sprints. On dry land there was just as much energy. Pickleball, squash, badminton and table tennis meant there was

The latest Women in Focus podcast was released this week and in this episode, Helen Berriman talks to Sarah Christenson Growing up as a missionary child in Mexico, Sarah was brought up in "purity culture". She was taught that her body was sinful, and that if a man lusted after her, that was her problem. It was Naturism that helped her deconstruct all of that. She is a Florida-based Naturism advocate and social media content creator. Sarah encountered her unexpected epiphany at a Tampa Naturist r

A month ago, British Naturism introduced one of its most practical member benefits yet, a simple way to cut the cost of everyday living. At a time when supermarket prices remain high, the idea of saving money on your regular food shop is appealing. But many “money off” deals only reward you for spending more than you planned. That is not real saving. That is upselling. This member benefit works differently. It gives cashback on the groceries you were already going to buy. No gimmicks. No changin

It’s shaping up to be a brilliantly busy year in the Scotland and North East England Region (SANER). After a fantastic start with Easter activities, there’s plenty more to come, so keep checking back as new events are announced over the next couple of weeks. Next on the calendar is the Naturist Badminton Tournament at Haddington, near Edinburgh, on Sunday 3rd May. The tournament will run alongside the regular Haddington swim, extended to a full three-hour session from 5pm to 8pm. That means lots

For the past few years, Gary and Noreen Kennedy have shared the role of Director without Portfolio, and in true partnership style, they’ve shown that two heads really are better than one. Together, they’ve played a big part in many of British Naturism’s recent achievements, not least the creation of our blossoming Northern Ireland Region as an independent entity. Now, Noreen has decided that it’s time to step back from her co-Director duties, but don’t mistake that for a farewell. Far from it. W

It’s No Bra Day in America — which we definitely support (no pun intended). But more importantly, it’s Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Many women miss screenings out of embarrassment — one of the tragedies of the cultural modesty we’ve used to trap ourselves. We all have bodies. Half of us are women. Every one of us should be comfortable getting the check-ups we need, regardless of sex. This is where Naturism can make a real difference to physical health. When we learn to be comfortable in our

We are delighted to welcome Lauren and Daniel, owners of The Shibui Project, as the new face of marketing for British Naturism. When we began looking for fresh alternatives to support the organisation, we knew the challenge ahead would not be an easy one. Andrew set a very high standard during his many years with us, and following in his footsteps is no small task. But there was a second, deeper challenge too. Despite decades of dedicated work, Naturism is still often misunderstood and seen by

Did you know that a wide variety of items are available to download from this website? Many of them are for members' only (sorry about that, but you know what to do if that's not you) but not all. The section includes legal guides, our media briefing and How to Talk About Naturism guide, plenty of information on volunteering, minutes of meetings and BN's annual reports. Best of all is that every BN magazine since 2004 is available in digital format. There's even a searchable index of all the mag

Back in May, we brought you the news that for the first time in a few years, there was going to be a central London Naturist swim! At the time of the launch, the swim took place on a Sunday, but such was the popularity, Saturday night was soon added. I caught up with organiser and host Paul who told me 'The swim is doing ok and picking up after the expected quieter time over the summer. There is a huge trend to book last minute which can be a little disconcerting but we we get there on the day!

Anyone who uses the internet regularly will know that you can't get away from people and companies trying to sell you things. There are some sites that feel like 99% advertising and 1% actual content. We also feature advertisements (although amongst some great content...) across the range of BN platforms but we want to encourage you to check them out. Advertising space is taken by Naturists for Naturists. Let’s support each other and make sure those businesses thrive! Don’t forget to look at th

Forgive the provocative title - Flirt is the name of a café and bar in Bournemouth and on Saturday 11 October, we'll be hosting our third naked evening there. Earlier this year, on the second visit, 50 people thoroughly enjoyed the quiz and social evening and we're looking forward to welcoming more people for more of the same in October. Both food and drink will be available. Find out more including how to book your place, over on the BN calendar

We sure get a lot of attention paid to British Naturism and our activities by the media! It's a two-way street - sometimes they come to us, sometimes we issue information - but we have developed such an effective way of dealing with requests quickly and efficiently as well as having so much to talk about that I count at least 20 occasions this summer when BN has been featured in the press - and much of it national. There are organisations and companies far bigger than us - and with larger financ

Twenty six dippers enjoyed the third Great British Skinny Dip (GBSD) event at Findhorn, on the Moray Firth, Scotland, writes organiser Alan Ellison. Two were just out for a walk along the beach when they decided to join in and this inspired another to strip off and run into the sea! This year we enjoyed warn sunshine with a gentle breeze generating some great waves for splashing around. The dolphins didn’t show (again) but a curious seal popped up to see what on earth was going on. On the day, w

This Friday, the 12th September, a new documentary on Naturism will be released on the European culture channel ARTE.tv. This summer we worked with a German production company exploring one of the biggest challenges facing Naturism today – how to engage young adults. While national surveys in both the UK and France show that attitudes towards social nudity are broadly positive, Naturist federations are struggling to attract younger members. Without them, the organisations that protect our freedo
