For most of us, summer means sunshine. It means getting outside, feeling the warmth on our skin and making the most of those precious long, bright days. For Naturists, that connection with the outdoors can be even more important.
But how much thought do we really give to the sun?
In the Summer issue of BN Magazine, British Naturist member Iain shared the deeply personal story of his experience with skin cancer — from a childhood and early adulthood spent chasing the perfect tan, through multiple skin cancer diagnoses, to the devastating moment he was told his melanoma had reached stage 3.
What followed was seven operations and two years of immunotherapy. Yet Iain's story isn't one of fear. It is ultimately a story about gratitude, resilience, enjoying life and learning to treat the sun with a little more respect.
As Naturists, we have a particular reason to think about protecting our skin. We expose more of it to the sun, often for longer periods, and the temptation to make the most of every ray can be strong. With hotter, drier summers becoming more common, understanding the risks has never been more important.
Iain shares what he wishes he'd known, the warning signs we should all look out for, and some simple ways to enjoy the sunshine while taking better care of ourselves.
His message is simple: enjoy the warm weather — but be safe.
It is a powerful and thought-provoking personal account, and one that could genuinely encourage all of us to take a closer look at our own skin.
