British Naturism has always embraced the unusual, seeking to provide unique experiences for members. The London and South East Region may just have set a new standard.
The LASER team has organised a naked visit to London's recently opened Museum of Illusions. Museum visits are always popular, but this one raises the bar even further. Packed with optical tricks and mind-bending exhibits, it's a photographer's dream and a place where you simply won't believe what your eyes are telling you.
There are more than 70 interactive exhibits to explore. Defy gravity, walk into a kaleidoscope, climb the façade of a building without leaving the ground, witness still images come to life and discover how all these impossible experiences are created. One exhibit even convinced me that my whole world was gradually turning upside down. Another? Let's just say you're guaranteed to lose your head!
Photography always requires sensitive handling in a Naturist environment. We should respect the choices of individuals to appear in photographs or not. As the Museum of Illusions is specifically designed to create mind-boggling images, we have adopted a simple approach: people are welcome to take their own personal photographs, but no-one should appear in a picture without their express consent.
With that respectful and common-sense rule in place, we expect some wonderfully creative and amusing images to emerge from the evening.
It's worth noting that when I visited, the staff were incredibly friendly and enthusiastic. I was on my own and they repeatedly offered to help me capture the perfect shot. Their experience with the exhibits means they know exactly where to position you to create the most striking illusions.
The Museum is located on Tottenham Court Road, just five minutes from the Tube. Why not join us on 23 September from 6.30pm to 8.30pm?
You could even make a day of it by taking in a West End matinee beforehand. The Devil Wears Prada has some excellent seats available from around £28 and is only a short walk away. Afterwards, those who want to continue socialising can join us at a local pub – probably dressed, although we're exploring whether we can find a venue with a private room for Naturists!
Tickets are available through Naked Tickets at £30 for British Naturism members and £40 for non-members, so feel free to bring friends along and introduce them to an evening where nothing is quite as it seems.
