This week we celebrate Volunteers Week!
British Naturism is a volunteer-led organisation. The range of events we deliver, the media profile we maintain, and the political influence we exert make us the envy of many much larger professional organisations.
It would be flippant to say we achieve what we do despite being a volunteer organisation. The truth is that we achieve what we do BECAUSE we are a volunteer organisation. Every person who contributes does so out of passion, commitment and belief in what we are trying to achieve. That level of personal investment makes our volunteers incredibly effective.
Volunteers Week has been celebrating and thanking volunteers for more than 40 years. Led by organisations including the National Council for Voluntary Organisations and Volunteer Scotland, the campaign reached more than 525,000 people through social media last year.
If impact is measured by reach, British Naturism stands alongside much larger organisations. Last month, through just one of our social media channels, we reached more than one million people. It is a reminder that British Naturism is a significant organisation making a real difference.
Yet the numbers only tell part of the story. What matters most is the impact on individuals. People volunteer because they enjoy it, because they want to contribute, and because they want to help create positive change.
There are dozens of ways to volunteer with British Naturism. Some roles involve a major commitment and the opportunity to shape the future of the organisation. Others require only a few minutes when you have time to spare. There are practical opportunities such as groundwork or running an activity at a festival, organisational roles supporting or creating an event or project, and desk-based roles for those with skills in writing, IT, marketing, administration and more.
Whatever your interests, skills or availability, there is likely to be an opportunity that suits you.
