Yorkshire Day, celebrated every year on 1 August, is a chance to recognise everything people love about England's largest county: its spectacular countryside, proud heritage, strong communities and famously down-to-earth character. Across Yorkshire, towns, villages and organisations mark the day with events celebrating local culture and traditions.
This year, one North Yorkshire Naturist club is offering a rather different way to celebrate.
Valley Sun Club, near Harrogate, is inviting curious visitors to "leave their clothes at the gate" as it opens its doors for a free Discovery Day on Yorkshire Day.
The event has been designed specifically for people who have never experienced social nudity before and want to find out what Naturism is really about in a friendly, pressure-free environment.
Steve Knight from Valley Sun Club believes Yorkshire Day is the perfect occasion for people to discover what Naturism is really about.
"Many people think Naturism is about taking your clothes off. In reality, it's about much more than that. It’s about feeling comfortable in your own skin, enjoying nature and meeting friendly, genuine people without judgement. Yorkshire Day is the perfect opportunity to discover that for yourself."
Visitors will be welcomed by club members, offered guided tours of the facilities, have the chance to ask questions, and can take part in optional activities including boules and mini golf, or simply relax in the peaceful countryside setting.
Club Secretary Neil says the day has been created with first-time visitors firmly in mind.
"We know that walking through the gates for the first time can feel a little daunting because every one of our members was once a first-timer too. Our aim is simply to help people feel comfortable, answer their questions honestly and let them experience the friendly atmosphere that Naturism offers."
The club says many of the values associated with Naturism mirror those for which Yorkshire is well known: a love of the outdoors, an honest and straightforward outlook, and a welcoming community where people are accepted as they are.
The Discovery Day is free to attend, with no obligation to join the club afterwards. Places are limited, however, and advance booking is required.
Anyone interested can find further information, including advice for first-time visitors, on the Valley Sun Club website.
