George Bernard Shaw was photographed naked on Studland beach in 1909, his sister Vanessa Bell painted nude figures on the same beach a year later. In the 1920s and 30s when groups of people seeking health and freedom decided to meet to sunbathe and swim without clothes, Studland became a favourite meeting place. Purbeck art historian Pennie Denton will show paintings and photographs of naked (and clothed) writers and artists who have visited Purbeck, and discuss the controversy around nakedness.
