Culver Beach aka Yaverland

Location and the Beach

Culver Beach is easy to access and near Sandown on the south-east coast. Chalk cliffs rise above the sand and shingle shore. The beach slopes gently and the water is clear so swimming is excellent. It’s popular with naturists and often gets busy in summer.

There are toilets and a cafe in the car park.

Directions

The beach is located between Red Cliff and Whitecliff Ledge, near Culver Cliff. It is sometimes known as Yaverland.

Directions: From Sandown, travel north-east along the seafront (B3395) following signs to the zoo, which is almost a mile out of town. Just past the entrance to the zoo is a Pay and Display seafront car park, nearest post code: PO36 8QB. Park, walk on to the beach and turn left towards the white cliffs. It is just a 10-minute stroll along the shore to the bare area beneath the cliffs.

Access to the beach and Naturism

The beach is of cobble-sized stones, but when the tide goes out it leaves a nice sandy beach.

The beach may be cut off at high tide. Check locally for tide details and any currents affecting the beach. Access to the beach may involve cliff paths (some of which may be in disrepair) or even some scrambling so you should exercise care and wear suitable footwear.
