Location and Beach
Near Margate in Kent, Botany Bay is a large and easily accessed sandy beach which is very popular with textiles. An area to the west (left when looking at the sea) has been used by naturists for many years.
The area used by naturists comprises the beach and a slightly raised, grassy area which provides a small amount of protection if there is a wind but otherwise the beach has no shelter. Swimming is excellent, especially at high tide.
The textile area of the beach has a snack bar and toilets but there are no facilities at the naturist end.
Access and Parking
The beach is accessed by a steep slope at
. If that access is difficult for you, there is easier access at two points on the textile area of the beach at 51°23'21"N 1°26'06"E. At low tide the beach can also be accessed by a ramp just before the water treatment station at the west end of the beach.
There is free parking in nearby residential streets, but this gets very busy on nice days - especially during school holidays and weekends.
It is a pleasant 3 mile walk or cycle ride along the seafront from Margate railway station.
Naturism
The beach can attract a fair number of naturists on a good day, a majority of men with more M/F couples than other local beaches. Despite the popularity of the textile beach, it coexists with the naturist area with no issues but there have been reports of voyeurs looking down from the cliffs behind the beach.
