In the recent Laser newsletter I listed an "End the Summer with Nothing On" event in Covent Garden on August 31st which was on the BN calendar. I've now been informed the event is cancelled but the website for this event still shows it as on.  The event is organised by Nothing on Events and I'm seeking clarification.

In the last Laser newsletter I described London as being a naturist desert. Many thanks to Malcolm, Mark and Andy who have written to correct me on this!
First of all the Noah's Ark swim is inside the M25 in Ewell, Surrey. That mistake was ignorance on my part! I thought it was just outside. However, it's a great swim to visit with first class facilities. The swim is every Sunday between 4 and 6pm. If it's your first visit you must call them on 07940 881 100 in advance. There's a pool a sauna and often activities out of the pool.

Every Friday between 8.45pm and 10pm (except bank Holidays) the Watford Naturist Swimming Club hold their swim at the Watford Leisure Centre. It's a family friendly event with sauna and steam room. The pool is 25 metres with a dedicated swimming lane. Once again this swim is inside the M25 but this time in North London! Email  info@wnsc.org.uk for more details.

Yet another unique opportunity has now come up in the LASER region. It’s a naturist trek with llamas. Whether or not the llamas are joining in with the undress code will depend on the farmer I suspect.  We will be taking it in turns to lead 8 llamas through private woods at Bluecaps llama farm near Coulsley Wood near Wadhurst. This is in the beautiful High Weald area of East Sussex. There’s only twenty tickets available so book early. At the end of the walk there will be a picnic. The event takes place between 3 and 6pm. Tickets are £26 for BN members and £31 for non members. This is a clothes optional event. See the link here:  LLAMA WALK LINK
    Fun facts about llamas:
1 Baby llamas are called crias.
2 Mother llamas bond with their baby by humming.
3 Yes they spit but only when really upset. If their ears go back watch out!!
4 Llamas have a split upper lip to enable them to select the tastiest nibbles.
5 Llamas have a designated bathroom area!!!
6 Llamas are from the Andes region of South America.
7 Llamas are very sociable animals.
8 They are strong and can carry 90kg all day... but if you overpack them they refuse to move.

The purpose of my two (so far) annual clothes-optional charity walks along part of the Cuckoo Trail in East Sussex (a former railway line  used frequently by walkers, cyclists and even horse riders) was to try  to demonstrate that naturists are normal citizens who simply prefer to spend their down-time without clothes (perfectly legal as we all know) but who, like any other grouping of like-minded people, might wish to raise money for a charity by a sponsored walk (again a common-enough event).

To attract more women, I chose a charity, Breast Cancer Now, which is concerned with a disease, though by no means unknown in the male population, is much more prevalent among women. This year at least we had one brave lady, Dee, who arrived with her husband for the walk, and stripped off readily from the start and remained naked throughout in spite of the indifferent weather. But where were the other ladies ?  It would have been great to have had more women as a more equal mix of the sexes leads to better public perception. Hopefully Dee will report to other women of her acquaintance that the experience was a positive one and that, in 2023, people met us in a friendly, cheerful and accepting way even donating cash to the cause there and then.
Of course being very much in the public eye we were often meeting passers-by but the overwhelming attitude was of almost joining in with the spirit of the occasion.  The route this time was shorter but the four and a half miles from Horam to the Cuckoo Trail car park at Hellingly seemed just right for those who participated. And if it wasn't far enough, then they  walked back as indeed several did. The remainder dressing and returning to the start by bus. Altogether we raised in excess of £400 for Breast Cancer Now.
I know that June represents the start of the all too short summer season when naturist events crowd alarmingly together but would love
to see more walkers (and I know of plenty from all my walk leaderships) including particularly more representatives of our female
    membership,  in 2025.

Due to an enormous error by yours truly the date of the Houghton Lodge Garden Visit has had to be changed to TUESDAY 11 JUNE. I can only offer my apologies, I had asked for Wednesday 11th in error and the venue picked up on 11th and have us booked for TUESDAY 11 JUNE. They have another event on so can't accept any naturist visitors on Wednesday.
I feel so stupid for not double-checking but as they say, it is what it is. If you know of any friends that were planning to come please make sure they are aware of the change.

The weather is getting better by the day (sort of!!) and summer is here. And we are so lucky in the LASER region to have so many walks planned. I tried to think why walking in the country is so good for you and found this quote from the Woodland Trust and it sums it up perfectly:
5 minutes walking in nature improves mood, self-esteem, and relaxation. Frequent exposure to nature reduces anxiety and depression, while promoting a sense of wellbeing and fulfillment. Physcial activity in a green space can reduce stress and lowers cortisol levels by 15%.
What a wonderful description that is..... and of course walking naked adds to the feeling twice over.
We have two walks coming up organised by Mike Ryan and here are the details.

    JULY 4TH Ashdown Forest
This is an 18km walk in Ashdown Forest and through the beautiful West Sussex coutryside. The walk is fairly level with only some minor hills and no major climbs. The walk will meet at 11:00am in Ashdown Forest Meeting location: Millbrook East Car Park, Ashdown Forest   https://maps.app.goo.gl/D7Ftumn3DYqF6XXV8  What three words - specifies.caramel.snacks  Postcode TN22 3HW(It may also be possible to pick up people from East Grinstead train station, depending on numbers. Please contact Mike Ryan before-hand to confirm)
Contact: Mike Ryan 07958 750139     Walk leader: Phil Harris 07711 640060
    AUGUST 8TH Markbeech
We will be holding the next of the SE naturist walks in the Markbeech area on Thursday 8th August. (Markbeech is very roughly, halfway between Tunbridge Wells and East Grinstead)

If you haven't made a note in your diary then a reminder that Sophie and her team are looking forward to seeing us at the beautiful Houghton Lodge Gardens on the River Test next Wednesday. Full calendar details are here. No need to book, just turn up on the evening.
For those who are coming, we look forward to seeing you there. A reminder that food will not be available on this occasion so why not bring your own picnic? Hot and cold drinks will be available.
Sophie has advised: there are roadworks on the Stockbridge to Houghton road and also in Kings Somborne leading to sporadic road closures. The best way to get here on 11th June avoiding them:  If coming from the North (Stockbridge) then make your way to Broughton and approach us from the south and follow the garden signs. If coming from the south (Romsey) turn left before you get to Kings Somborne and follow the garden signs.

The Brighton WNBR is this Sunday. Brighton's World Naked Bike Ride (WNBR) celebrates bikes, body power & low impact living while demonstrating our vulnerability & protesting against fossil fuels & car culture. 2024 ride: Sun 9th June, assembling from 12pm at Preston Park, Brighton.
Many thinks this is the best of all the UK rides. It's quite big with usually 500 plus riders and is quite safe with an excellent police escort. It ends at the naturist beach and has a half hour break on the sea front.

This Saturday June 8th will be the latest World Naked Bike Ride. It's not a BN event or even naked necessarily but good fun all the same and the after event looks like a lot of fun. This WNBR is now 20 years old.

    The AfterShow
We encourage you to do the ride and continue the fun, friendly atmosphere at the AfterShow. Non-riders are welcome too. The AfterShow is open to all fans of WNBR, Naked Cabaret, Phantom Peak and everyone else (over 18). Doors open at 18:00. The bar and food will be available. Warm up with some Life Drawing fun at 19:00, then the main show is at 20:00. (No admittance after 21:00.)
The main show features Naked Cabaret‘s MCs Alexis and comedian Fella along with Lady Gloria, soulful burlesque singer Laura Loops, JJ – the Mad Chattaa, hula-hooper extraordinaire and Keri Gold the award-winning acro-balancer, as seen on Britain’s Got Talent. Expect nudity! After the show, we’ll keep the music playing, so get up and dance.

We all love the outdoors and the sun but are so often let down with windy, rainy days in Summer. But there are alternatives!! East Sussex Naturists have organised a visit to the Bexhill Museum on June 18th at 6pm. We have attended a few museum visits with BN in the past (Haynes Motor Museum, Falmouth Maritime Museum and the Ipswich Museum) and they have all turned out to be super interesting. Bexhill seems to have some great attractions as well including two of the Eddie Izzard family's model railway collections.   Link to the Izzard model railway
There's also the odd tale of Bexhill's finishing school for ladies from the Nazi elite!!

Bruce has kindly sent in this update on the problems at Abbots Cliff.
I went to the beach yesterday and also spoke to people in the area about problems caused by a landslip early in April  at Folkestone Warren which lies to the west. Access to the beach from  the east  - from Samphire Hoe near Dover has always been available and for people arriving by car* it is probably the best option as there is plenty of parking space, albeit subject to charges.
*pedestrians can reach Samphire Hoe using the no 64 bus service from Dover alighting at Aycliffe Community Primary School. From there a footbridge leads across the A20 to a footpath and the tunnel to Samphire Hoe.
The restrictions imposed on public access to Folkestone Warren appear to have been lifted. One can drive past the Martello tower and leave one's vehicle in the small parking areas before walking about two miles to the beach. Seawall barriers blocking access for  pedestrians have been removed. There remains access to the beach down cliff paths either from the cafe opposite Helena Road in Capel-le-Ferne or from the Royal Oak public house a quarter of a mile to the east  but if there is a return to prolonged wet weather or if Kent County Council fail to send in contractors regularly to clear the brambles these paths may become difficult to use. A pair of secateurs in hand luggage may come in useful.
There is one proviso. The steps leading from the railway  to the seawall have collapsed due to a small landslip. An alternative route is to turn right after crossing the pedestrian bridge over the railway and walk west  towards Folkestone. After about 100 yards steps appear down to a dirt track which leads to the seawall. There you turn left and walk about a mile and half towards Dover till the seawall ends. Here there is a problem. The metal ladder installed by some kind people years ago is now in a shaky condition. The rope and metal handhold implanted in the chalkface have disappeared. The drop to the beach is too far for people to jump. The ladder remains in use but it is hazardous.
It is possible to walk from Folkestone along the beach but only at low tide. Signs have appeared in places warning of falling rocks and there is evidence of major rockfalls during the winter - but naturists were still in evidence on the beach during fine weather on May 11th.

    See our calendar entry here
Join BN’s London and South East Regional team and the Naturist Ramblers as we return to the Mill Arms for an evening of dinner and skittles. 2 or 3 course menu options available.
We will have exclusive use of the function room at the pub. This is a fully self-contained area with its own bar and toilets which means that it will be possible to be naked throughout the event. Car parking is available behind the pub, but it is only two minutes’ walk from Dunbridge & Mottisfont Station, so why not leave the car at home and enjoy a few drinks!
The Mill Arms also has a small number of rooms above the function room which can be booked alongside your ticket for the dinner. These are available on 12 and 13 June and include a full breakfast. Our host at the pub is happy for guests to remain naked for breakfast should they wish.

We are delighted to announce the summer series of naked swims at Petersfield Open Air Pool in June, July and August. These are part of the Great British Skinny Dips, raising awareness of the benefits of skinny-dipping and raising funds for the British Heart Foundation. The pool at Petersfield, Hampshire is a delight and the staff make us very welcome and have agreed to put on a BBQ for us again and donate half their shop profit for the sessions to BHF.
    Links to the events are:
    June 14th 6:30pm - 8:30pm
    July 13th 6:30pm - 8:30pm
