A Chilly Beach Day in Prestatyn – warmed by our Naturist community!

August 24 - which to my mind should always be a hot, sunny day – dawned grey and cold. Nevertheless, my partner Dave and I were off to Barkby Beach in Prestatyn, North Wales, for an outing with the North Wales Naturist Society (NWNS). The things we nudies do to enjoy our chosen lifestyle!

A portion of the beach had been allocated to NWNS. Unlike many Naturist beaches, this one was fairly close to the carpark. I think most of us have experienced the usual miles-long trek past the clothed beach to the Naturist area.

Some 23 people – a nice mix of men, women and children – turned up. On the way to the spot, I encountered a guy who’d come over from Birmingham for the event. Another had come down from Scotland to stay at the NWNS camp in Halkyn. Dave and I ran into people we’d met elsewhere, and lots of interesting chats ensued.

About half of the group stripped off, and a handful waded into the sea. Call me a wimp, but it was just too cold for me to undress. Needless to say, there were no clothed people traipsing through our area as the whole beach was mostly deserted.

By the time we left in mid-afternoon, the sky over the water was a bright blue, the sun was shining – and I had a fleeting thought of stripping off.  But the sky over the land was its usual leaden grey, a cold wind was blowing - so I talked myself out of it!

What struck me most about the day was the warmth and acceptance Naturists radiate. No one cared that some of us didn’t undress. Everyone intermingled – or not, as they saw fit – and made the most of the weather. I’m preaching to the choir here, but I hope we all realise how welcoming and supportive our community is!

Next up for NWNS? A Naked Bike Ride in Llangollen. Read all about it here
