The Beach
A quiet, gently sloping, sandy beach on the East Kent coast.
At high tide swimming is excellent in shallow water (warmed by the sand if high tide is in the afternoon), sometimes accompanied by inquisitive seals
At low tide it is a very long walk out to the water and even longer to get more than ankle deep. There is some vegetation and undulation to give shelter on a breezy day however, there is no shade and no facilities anywhere near the beach. A fenced off Nature Reserve is located behind the beach which separates it from from the golf course.
Location
The beach is located within the private Sandwich Bay estate about 2 miles from the centre of Sandwich. Anywhere north of the Prince's golf clubhouse until a row of posts which mark the start of a bird sanctuary.
Access and Parking
The nearest parking is on Princess Dr (1 mile from the beach) and is the last car park on the beach before getting to The Lodge at Prince's Golf Club (CT13 9QB). A toll is payable to get to this car park (£8 in 2022) www.sandwichbay.estate). There is parking (some free) in Sandwich where there are lots of facilities for food and drink. Sandwich has a train station and bus services. It is a pleasant, flat, walk of 3 miles each way from Sandwich.
Naturism
The beach is used by a small number of naturists, there is a large area to wander around freely and no problem going down to the sea to bathe naked. The small number of locals who walk their dogs that far down the beach are normally aware of its use by naturists.
